TEncoder 4.5.2 - Multithreaded GUI for FFMpeg and Mencoder

P.S.1: In version 4.3.0 there is ability to add custom arguments to mencoder.I can write custom .ass style via ass-force-style and it works fine.Excellent job.
But there is one problem with mencoder,It can not use full cpu power.Even though i selected 4 threads in settings mencoder can not use 100 %.
In encoding settings can you provide an option for choosing threads to auto mode (threads=0).It probably can help to utilize full cpu power.
P.S:2:Are you considering to add support for mpv player?.It is a fork of mplayer/mplayer2/mencoder with different syntax for commands.

Yeah,i tried all available mencoder/x264 settings , but mencoder still use around 85% cpu.It's not Tencoder fault.
Mencoder is broken by design,ffmpeg is faster.But with mencoder is easier to hardburn custom styled .ass subs and i will stick with it.

I only ask to add option to choose fdk in audio codec settings in Tencoder.I will compile my own build.I dont like other aac encoders,fdk for now is best among others.

And at last one feature request.Can you add ability to edit whole command line options before encoding.For instance scale is used always and i want to remove it. :)

Hi,
Been trying out TEncoder to create "hard subtitles" into existing mpg files. This is the odd behavior we are seeing
1. Source video files are MPG, with MPEG 1 Audio Layer 2, FPS 29.97
2. trying to burn a subtitle file saved as an SRT and created in subtitle edit. The subtitles are perfectly syncd in subtitle edit
3. The exported settings are H264, 6000 KBPS, CBR, aspect ratio :keep, FPS: same as source, container: mp4

The end result has the subtitles out of sync but burned in.

Any suggestions to fix the sync? Any subtitle format other than SRT?

Also, the "Trim" feature tool is grayed out. Is this feature activated yet? any hints if so?

@disto I don't think the mencoder version included in the package supports fdkaac. It's a bit old but is the only mencoder version that I've came across that respects subtitle font settings.

@infante Everything seems to right about your steps. Is it possible that mencoder detects source's fps wrong? I can't think of nothing else, please check encoder logs or post them here. Also, did you try first preview the file within TEncoder? You can enable trimming in settings window > encoding tab.

the subs are in sync in the beginning and then slowly get worse and worse...

Hi All,
found more info.

Our original steps which resulted in bad sync from TEncoder were: 1. digibeta source and captured/encoded to MPG with TMPGENC 2. Brought the MPG file into subtitle Edit (using VLC to display video) to sync subtitles and noticed it was off and resync'd the file. It looked good in subtitle edit when done. 3. re-encoded in TEncoder to burn subs which resulted in out of sync.

I wanted to confirm the source so I re-encoded the source to MKV and brought the MKV into subtitle edit and the SRT file worked perfectly without any modifications. I re-processed the "burned subs" in TEncoder and it sync'd perfectly!

I re-looked at the original MPG that resulted in the bad sync and interestingly VLC player was displaying the time code as 1:49:17 and TMPENC/AVANTI were both showing timecode at 1:49:49 .

So my conclusion is that VLC is the culprit as I used VLC as my video player in subtitle edit. VLC correctly read the MKV but incorrectly read the MPG which threw off everything else. I have since changed subtitle edit to use DirectShow and everything works well. Thanks Ozok for the message...

There is a option in some video converters to "Enable GPU Acceleration" due to which the conversion becomes very fast please implement this feature in TEncoder if possible.

@kolpotoru I can add this iff ffmpeg or mencoder supports it. AFAIK latest versions of ffmpeg has some hardware decoding support but I don't know to what extended that is. I constantly forget about merging. Sorry about that.

If Information about Hardware acceleration is not available now then we can wait until we find more information about it.

Hi. Just gave the program a try and while selecting 'Codec options' for MPEG4 I tried using CRF instead of bitrates. It asked me for bitrate and used the bitrate I specified instead of using CRF. How do I change this behaviour? Thanks

CRF is only available for MPEG4 AVC/H.264 (TEncoder calls it "H264", will probably use the x264 library), not for MPEG4 ASP (TEncoder calls the generic ffmpeg implementation "MPEG4", it is similar to Xvid).

Again, I have many mkv files. I want to mass convert them to mp3 so I can listen to them in the car. It works but the mp3 is CBR. How do I make them ABR ?

How do I crop a video when re-encoding it with TEncoder?

Assume I got a video with black letter box around it.
I want to re-encode the video but crop the black parts. Other tool offer an (auto-)crop function.

How do I do this with TEncoder?

Currently these files are stored in installation directory but I want to have D:\temp\ folder instead.

Ozok, a new feature suggestion: Add PAL<>NTSC (25fps<>23/976fps) retiming options with two checkboxes (for video and audio). This will re-encode audio to the new time and re-stream video (if also checked) to the desired frame-rate. (Including video-restreaming would save users an additional step with MKV Merge.)

My conversion from an .m2ts Blu-ray file to ProRes .mov resulted in sideways video -- 1920 became 1080 and vice versa. How do I figure out how to correct this?

Update: I tried remuxing the .m2ts with tsmuxer into new files rather than using the raw blu-ray .m2ts files and the remuxes come through sideways as well.

Do you need QuickSync for encoding (to which video format, AVC?) or decoding?

As TEncoder is based on ffmpeg or mencoder, and you may be able to compile ffmpeg with some QuickSync support, it may be possible; but I believe to remember that other authors had issues, not easily understanding how to handle such a build.

Hybrid by Selur offers support for some QuickSync accelerated tools, and should also support batch encoding.
