I've made an m4v file with internal srt subtitles. However, when I play back the file in MPC-HC, I can't enable them. I use Haali and CoreAVC to play the video. When I right-click the white Haali icon in the system tray, it doesn't list the subtitle track but simply says 'No subtitles'. When I open the m4v file in VLC player, I can select the internal subtitle without any problem. How can I enable the internal srt subtitle within MPC-HC?

How did you create the file and are you sure the tool did not convert the SRT to Timed Text? We had a thread about this recently.

I used HandBrake to make the video and I used mkvextract to extract the subtitle from the source video. In Handbrake, I imported the extracted srt subtitle and set the Srt CharCode to UTF-8.

Is it set to VMR-9 (renderless) ?

Perhaps you prefer HC but even though I almost never use WMP I've found that WMP12 can display PGS subs as well as XSubs!! Boy was I surprised!! SRT as a stream should be a snap.

If the splitter does not recognize the embedded subs then the rest of the playback chain does not know about their existence.

@ MilesAhead: No, MPC-HC is set to the Haali one, not the VMW-9.

In HandBrake, I changed the m4v container to the mkv container. Now, MPC-HC (and Haali) do see the srt subtitle. I don't know why that is, but at least I can use the subtitles now ;-). Though thank you for all your answers of course!
