Hello All,
I'm really new to this so please bear with me...I've searched all over this forum looking for a solution to my problem but couldn't find anything that matches the problem I'm having, so please excuse my ignorance if I've missed something. Here's my problem; I have a few American Blu-ray movies with Japanese subtites. I have a Samsung 32 inch LED TV (model UN32C4000) which supports many video and audio file formats including .avi, .mp3 .mp4, .mkv, etc. As well as various string-based subtitle formats like .sub and .srt. I was able to successfully create a copy I-Robot using a single .sup file with Japanese subtitles, but for some reason it is permanent both on my PC and when playing it on the TV with no way to turn it off on either system. I've also recently created copy of Avatar with three selectable subtitles (Japanese, English and Japanese again). Now while the three selectable subtitle streams are displayed correctly on the PC, none of them seem to work at all on the TV. Why is this? Again, in both instances, I supplied .sup files to Ripbot264 for subtitles. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's strange though. Are you sure you didn't hardsubbed subs into a video stream?

Looks like your TV doesn't support multiple subtitle streams in a file. Does it work fine with a one subtitle stream?
Sorry for my English.

I think I may have hard subbed it with I-robot. No it doesn't work even with just one subtitle stream. Now I did figure out something concerning Avatar's subtitles....I used SupRip to convert the English .sup subtitle (just the forced subs) to .srt with the same name and in the same older as the .mkv file. Then ran it again on the TV and the subs worked. Only issue I though, which really isn't a bid deal is that I'll loose the original font used for the Navi dialog. I also still need to try loading another .srt to see if indeed the TV will support multiple subtitle files. We'll see how that goes. But at least I know now that the subtitles will work with separate .srt files.

So why not convert to VobSub with BDSup2sub to keep the original font?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give that a try.

This.

I was able to create a new .sup file from the original, keeping just the forced captions. I then muxed the new .sup file with the Avatar.mkv file using mkvmerge. And it works fine on the computer...but alas, the TV coughs an error message stating "Not supported file format". This same file would play back just fine on the TV without the subtitle track. Take a look at the media info. First one plays back on the TV. The second one does not. The only difference between the two is the second one has the subtitle track included.
Without subtitle:

Disable header removal compression in mkvmerge GUI's options, then re-open and remux. Whether your TV actually supports embbed pgs subtitles is a whole different question, though.

Some standalones also playback bitmap subs even if not mentioned in the manual. Also you could try external subs instead of muxed ones.

@sneaker_ger: Looks like you were correct on both accounts. After disabling header removal compression, the movie played back fine. But, the embedded PGS subtitle track was a no go. Works perfectly in WMP though.
@Chetwood: I have another batch queing up as I'm writing this. Using RipBot264, I loaded up the new .sup file under picture properties for a permanent subtitle which automatically got converted to .sub format. Keeping my fingers crossed :)
