Is the following font Arial Bold, or Arial Narrow Bold?
I'm creating subtitles with MaestroSBT, and I want to set this exact same font type.
I can't determine what type it is.
Anyone know?

The width, as you asked, well, that depends on how the video is displayed. Since for DVD the subtitles must share the same displaying area as the video, they are automatically enlarged (widened) if the video is 16:9 anamorph, so they will appear thickener as created. That's why smart editors use 2 or 3 subtitles for each mode in case the video is 16:9 (or wide screen).
For AVI one generally doesn't have this issue.

I used DVDSubEdit to save that DVD Subpicture as bitmap.
I also noticed in DVDSubEdit that there are two streams of the same english subtitle,
one widescreen, and one letterbox. I saved both of them as bitmap, but they look exactly the same,
except the vertical position of the subtitles, which has changed.
I'm trying to set the same font that is on almost all DVD movies that I watched.
They all use the same font, I'm guessing it's Arial Narrow Bold, and I think there
is also an extra horizontal character spacing.
Also, the text color is not pure white, but a little darker, and antialiasing is darker
than the text color. Text outline is black.
Is there a way I can get the exact color values?
Are they maybe written in the DVD Ifo file?
I also tried that website, to determine the font type,
but it's not working with this image.

Colour: PGCEdit: Open DVD, doubleclick the item you want to explore,
Subpicture CLUT will tell the exact values for each of the 16 available colours from the Lookup table.

Just tried it. It works.
Thanks.

Does anyone know what font type is used by professionals for creating DVD subtitles?
I just realized that the above font type may not even be Arial.

The font of the first post may not be a very good choice anyway, it is rather crude.
Depending on the antialiasing on might afford even more stylish stuff.
But for readability in the end I often stick to simple Tahoma,
which is rather insensitive to any inappropriate stretching
that might occur on people's TFTs. And it doesn't hurt most content.

All kinds of. Most look a lot like Arial or Arial Bold, however I would certainly NOT recommend to use Arial or any other very similar font as there are much better alternatives. Tahoma for example is a lot better since it does provide a much better distinction between letters. Try to distinguish a lower case L and a capital i with Arial. There's simply no point in using Arial in my opinion.
Other good fonts for subtitles are Trebuchet MS (looks nice) and Tiresias PCfont (the latter I've actually seen on the German DVD release of "Butterfly Effect", I now use it all the time, it's free also).
Edit: Here's a snapshot of Tiresias PCfont
