I notice that a lot of DVDs and BDs have very small, sometimes forced, foreign language subtitle tracks for words that appear on screen. For example, there might be a spanish subtitle track that is displayed when the title of the movie appears on the screen.

Is there a way to make those subtitle tracks automatically display when switching audio tracks? So, let's say my rips always start with an English audio track and no subtitles by default, but then if I switch my audio track to Spanish can I make that small Spanish subtitle track kick on automatically at the same time?

Which can be ignored by the standalone.

Are you sure? I thought the only time the player is allowed to disregard a VM command is only when its parameters are incorrect (eg in this case SetSTN selects a non-existing stream, the player plays the only track or the default one (preferences in setup menu)).

Positive. When a default stream is set via the SETSTN command (as down by DVD Shrink e.g.) and my standalones setup defaults to subtitle off it will not be displayed.
