As some might find this helpfull lets share it :)

For all these with big character matrixes and some wrong character, here's a mod that will allow you to easily identify the bad characters in the Matrix entry and correct/delete them:

The software is written in Pascal/Delphi and has a very "Guru" style coding (modules called "Unit 1, Unit 2" etc) both of which makes it very difficult to understand.

But I guess the way this new feature works is more than enough to debug matrixes in a few seconds.

If you find some characters to be wrong or mixed up betweet capital and normal size (not the problem when "i" and "I" get mixed up where "I" is recognized as an "l" where nothing ca be done) then use as follow:


Identify a subtitle(s) index(es) with wrong characters
Check "Debug Matrix" Option:

Reset and rerun OCR on the Language
Look for the subtitle indexes and in the second part of the sub identify the bad character and read out the matrix index (e.g. "c=4261")

Fix/Delete the character with this index in the matrix
Uncheck "Debug Matrix", rerun OCR, done...
Voilà!


PS: There is another not well known tool for subtitle around I found called SubtitleEdit: http://www.nikse.dk/SubtitleEdit

It has a nice feature in that in uses hunspell from Open Office to spellcheck subs and thus produces subs with a better overall quality than SubRip.
Unfortunately the process to OCR a sub takes a lot of time and there are still some bugs and handling of the tool, storage of saved OCR identifications etc is not very clear, that's why SubRip is still very actual to me!

Don't be a dick. The project's hosted on SourceForge and GPL-licensed, which you could have discovered for yourself had you taken even the slightest effort to look (Google "SubRip"), but instead you decided to just passive-aggressively attack a contributor. No wonder this forum is dying when "veterans" act like douchebags to those trying to contribute. Not to mention that you are the only person on this forum who seems to be so self-obsessed as to write every post in an obnoxious custom color.

I second that, SubtitleEdit is a great little prog and I do like the OCR, but it does seem to have difficulty with some subs, eg try
"The Hunt for Red October", fails badly on that whereas SubRip does a very good job (not sure, think I tried all three OCR options, all three failed badly [EDIT: Produced complete gibberish]).

Highly recommend SubtitleEdit, especially like the re-timing
options. I still have a lot to learn about SubTitleEdit but will
use it in addition to Subrip, not a replacement.

Was about to DL SE 3.2 Beta 2, and noticed that you have just updated to
Beta 3 (8 minutes previously), am downloading that and will check it out
with the said DVD. Will give result some time today.

Have Re-Ripped the said DVD and also reinstalled v3.1 to retry. Could not get it to fail as
it did previously. (may have ripped disk slightly differently, duel Angle at movie beginning
+ other reasons why rip may have not been identical).
I have installed/overwritten the update for v3.2 Beta 3 and tried that, again no problem
encountered on any of the three OCR methods. Toggling "Use Custom Colors" does cause
the (all three) OCR to fail, with the same gibberish output as previous problem,
(example here: "7ff7 ©Ø1IIIIDOD Tz7m2@ z7m2@7 L,").
I'm pretty sure that the original failings came up with Inverse video, Black font with
white border, similar to the "Use Custom Colors" option box (I remember it was inverse
of Subrip display), I also am fairly sure I played with the Image Palette options without
any improvement, but it is several weeks since doing that original rip and I may not
be correct about everything.

Anyway, it is working fine for me now, and if it starts misbehaving I shall let you know
in the SubtitleEdit thread (when you've started one). I was about to search for the
SubtitleEdit thread when I found Frogger13's recommendation, I have since looked
and found there is not one. SubtitleEdit deserves a thread of it's own, dont hide
your bright light under a bushel.
