mux multiple subs in a video

I'm italian and I like to watch movies in their original language + I've got a tv video-files-reader which can't read external subs, thus I need to mux two srt files, oiginal+italian in the same avi. (that's because not all of my friends accept having to read not italian subs)

[I tried out a software called avisub, it required me to make some changes to the srt files then "processed" all and created a .divx file with two additional video tracks called "subs-something". obviously no subs at all were present on the screen.]

which software should I use?

PS obviously if my question is too basic I expect it to be moved or you say it to me and I'll repost the question in the newbies forum.

AVI-Mux GUI does it but I've yet to see a standalone player to support SRTs inside AVI containers.

m. I'll give it a try. the player is not a classic player but a mix external hd/player, I hope it can do it.

if not I'll have to put the subs directly in the video track, right?? but I can't since two subs tracks together is a bit too much to have on the screen...

Which means you should consider updating to a decent player that supports external subtitles.

There are guides to add IT subtitles to DVDs, I haven't yet seen an external player that doesn't play DVDs. No recoding to AVI (which is obsolete*) just demux/remux etc.

*there are people that say AVI still allows several audios, several subtitles and so on and swear that AVI is equivalent to eg MKV. The problem is that this functions with only one software or two.

Altough I basically agree with Ghitulescu, I'd like to know the name and model of this box of yours. In fact, a stand alone player will probably not be able to show more than 1 set of subs: U burn the avi file and the srt file (with the very same name but the extention) and the player will prolly show everything.
I'm not sure a stand alone will give U the possibility of choosing (if U burn more than 1 srt file), not to mention 2 audio tracks...Nevertheless there are a few media players with built in HD able to show subs on demand and audio on demand. They are very expensive and I never tested them.
Anyway, your prob is easily solved: If U need a CD/DVD then burn 2 of them (or even 3 or 4). In this case both U and Ur friends will be satisfied, each CD/DVD with wished audio and subs. If U are going to play this movie from a player with HD of any kind then make 2 or more dirs with the wished audio and subs.
This should solve the issue.

There are also people that say that AVI is sufficient for SD material. Also I have yet to see a standalone with AVI support that does not allow switching between properly name subs:
