Does anyone know where I can get specs on the format Apple uses to store text based captions in .m4v file? I'm investigating the possibility of adding this capability to VideoReDo, but I can't seem to find specs on the format.

Also does Apple support image based subtitles as well? (ala DVD or DVB) If so does anyone have an information on those?

Thanks,
Dan

It's standard 608 captions as far as I know.

The SCC format is basically a good place to look.

Have you tried looking on the MP4Box website? The text based captions/subtitles are in *.ttxt format and I've been successful in adding them. They work great on iPod Touch and Apple TV. Try here to start: http://gpac.wp.institut-telecom.fr/mp4box/ttxt-format-documentation/
