PGS to SRT?

I'm struggling converting PGS (blu-ray) subs to .srt but not very succesfull sadly. I've tried "SupRip" but the OCR process is driving me crazy (it doesn't learn the letters properly, it's hopeless).
Are there other alternatives?

Only recently I've found an excellent application named Subtitle Edit 3.1 (http://www.nikse.dk/) for this very purpose (and many others). I was also extremely disappointed by poor OCR capabilities of SubRip, SupRip and similar programs and almost give up to OCR Bluray/DVD subtitles in reasonable amount of time because of all those matrices, spacing, chars widths & millions of other parameters of which none seemed to work.
SE seems to handle 99% of these tasks automatically and very reliably - user interface is just awesome, efficient, well thought and 100% fit to purpose, highly recommended.
I'm a bit surprised that it's not mentioned here on Doom9 at all, what a shame. :(

I currently use suprip, and am pretty happy with the results.
but now ill try that other program, thanks.

Tried it today on a BD .sup file that I'd just run SupRip on, and SupRip was alot faster. At least, SupRip got thru this particular .sup very quickly/easily whereas Subtitle Edit required many dozens of edits when OCR'ing. Then tsmuxer didn't like the .srt such that it didn't accept the last subtitle--although I easily opened-then-output the offending .srt with Subtitle Workshop and tsmuxer liked the last subtitle this time.

Nice UI if I can get the OCR to work better and the "missing last subtitle" problem figured-out. Seems like SE is missing some CRs and the end...

Oh and SE doesn't seem to recognize/output italicized subtitles at all? :(

At least for English Subs I've had pretty good luck using the Automatic OCR in DVDSubEdit. First I pull up the PGS subs in BDSup2Sub and change the resolution to 720x480 NTSC, then export to iso/sup. I load those in DVDSubEdit, do automatic OCR, then save to .srt.

Nothing is seamless with OCR but in many cases I can get an .srt file with few or no corrections required.
Even so, most often now I just export the subs as idx/sub since that can be burned in with VobSub filter or used as external files with my WD set top box.

If you try the DVDSubEdit technique, a quick test is to search the output .srt file for underscores. Usually if it has trouble with a line of text the output looks like "a__7?__Q" The presence of an underscore seems to be the tell tail. By hitting find next you can get an idea how many manual edits are required. If only a few then I match up the original subs in BDSup2Sub and go to the subtitle number with the problem to see the original lines.
