Embed .srt in a h264 .avi file without re encoding

I tried Avimux_gui and aviaddxSub, without luck.
The first doesn't show any sub in MPC or VLC, the second works in VLC only but in MPC (my favourite player) I can only hear the audio track.
Creating a mkv isn't an option, atm.

I never had any problems playing back avi with embed .srt-subs created by AVI-Mux GUI using MPC. Check the following options in MPC:
1.) Options > Playback > "Auto-load subtitles"
2.) (while playing) right mouse > Subtitles > Enable ( also make sure the correct subtitle track is activated in that menu)
Which avi splitter are you using?

1) and 2) are OK (however when the srt is embedded, there is no track in that menù, even if Mediainfo shows it)
I'm using Haali media splitter 1.9.42.1 from Klite codec pack

Choose one of the following options:
1.) De-install haali's media splitter and reinstall it without avi support
2.) Activate MPC's internal avi splitter
3.) Click (while playing) right mouse > filter > [Path and filename] and activate the subtitle track you want to see
4.) Enter "und" (or whatever language you set the subtitle language to) in the haali media splitter's settings in the "subtitle priority" field
