View Full Version : Blu-ray Video Issue

I know the title seems wrong, but i couldn't figure out how to word it.

I'm having issues with blu-rays that have instances where they don't talk in english but it's the english audio that i'm watching in (like Miracle at St. Anna, Defiance, District 9, etc). In these movies, i don't need english subtitles all the way through, just at the points where i can't understand what the people are saying (when they speak a different language).

When playing the movie in the blu-ray structure, i get them (direct movie to .iso) when when i want to play the movie in my own software player, i don't get anything (it's like those specific subtitles aren't "hard coded" into the video stream).

If anyone can help me solve this issue, it's much appreciated!

P.S. sorry if this is in the wrong section, i tried to match the section it most belonged to.

What you are refering to are called "Forced" subtitles.

Forced subtitles can sometimes be "hard coded" to the video, so those would be on all the time. Another method is that one of the specific subtitle tracks is for the forced subtitles. The authoring would normally "turn these on" when the player starts, but not always.
Depending on the software player, you could try selecting the subtitle options available while watching the specific spot on the movie you would expect these forced subtitles to display, and see which one activates them.

i think i figured out all my issues. I was using madVR on MPC-HC w/ mkv files (mkv doesn't support .sup, but .ts files do) and when i had madVR on, the subtitles wouldn't load. But the subtitles work on .ts files and on .mkv files (converted to .sub) perfectly.
