I think it would be nice if this tool can also change preffered avi, mkv, etc. splitter - i really miss this featureYou can adjust preferred splitters with the K-Lite Codec Tweak Tool.

Any chance of adding support for DiAVC H.264 DecoderWill be added in next version.

Thanks for adding DiAVC support in 2.0 and I like the new split screen. However I notice one crucial issue with 2.0, ffdshow isn't selectable under 32 bit VC-1 anymore.

For some reason when I select an x264 codec for 32-bit (under Win7 x64) and want to e.g. switch from ffdshow to CoreAVC, I also need to disable ffdshow's x264 decoder and set coreavc to "preferred decoder" which sets the merit higher.

Is this normal? Is it possible for the tool to effect the change by itself without needing the extra steps (maybe by playing with the filter merits or something)?

I suspect you are using a player that ignores the preferred filter settings and behaves the same as on older versions of Windows. For example, Media Player Classic.

Well, close. I'm using MPC-HC, the version installed with the later K-Lite codec packs (regular + x64). Does that count?

clsid

Of course MPC-HC also counts as MPC.

Thanks for the diavc support.

Just a few suggestions that would make my experience with the tool a little smoother:
- Alphabetize formats and decoder (ffdshow could really use this too)
- Split audio and video formats into separate panes
- Use drop down menus like ffdshow does

Any chance of any of these?

Hey clsid,

I'm running Win7 Pro 64-bit and I am having problems with the tweaker tool (well I'm not sure if it's a problem with the tweaker or stupid M$). I am using v2.2 of the tool.

Anyways, I have Koepi's XviD 1.2.2 installed. I run the tweaker tool and under the 32-bit decoders, I select "Xvid" for XVID, DIVX and MP4V (rather than the default Microsoft).

However, when I use WMP to play AVI files that are XviD, they do not play with the XviD codec (I check by right-clicking on the name of the file playing in the WMP list, and click on properties and look under the video codec). I am using the 32-bit version of WMP because in the task manager the wmplayer.exe has the *32 beside it, so it should be fine I'm using a 32-bit codec.

I have also tried MPC, but the same result, it does not use the XviD codec, it uses the Microsoft codec.

If I run the tweaker tool again, it shows that the selected decoder is Xvid for the above 3 formats listed. As well, if I render the AVI file using Graph Studio, it is rendered with the XviD codec, but WMP are MPC are not using the XviD codec.

Is it possible that WMP is using the Winows Media Foundation for AVI files so no matter what I set the preferred directshow decoders the M$ codecs are used?

Thanks!

You can fix it in MPC by increasing the merit of the Xvid filter. Or by setting it as a preferred external filter in MPC settings. MPC simply uses the filter with the highest merit, and the Microsoft one has a slightly higher one as Xvid.

WMP is indeed possible using Media Foundation.

Thanks for the response. You are correct, if I set XviD as the preferred external filter, it will use the XviD codec.

However, is there anyway to get it to work in WMP? I thought that was the purpose of your tweaker tool?

If WMP is using Media Foundation, then I disable it using your tool, shouldn't WMP default to DirectShow filters and then use the XviD codec? (I tried the 'disable' function of the MF and MF 64-bit, but it didn't work)

I moved to Win 7 64bit, is the ffdshow_rev3133_20091117_clsid_x64.exe the right version to use?
* Do I need to use this tool with latest build of ffdshow? "if yes" can i get some tips on how to set it up.
* Is halli spilitter is must to use with ffdshow and mpc-hc 64bit for playing files?

adam777

I believe the guideline would be not to mix 32 bit and 64 bit filters, as it will simply not work.
Using Windows 7 x64 myself, I'm currently use 32-bit only software as, for example, DiAVC decoder only comes in 32 bit.
Also, I read several times the 64 bit version of MPC-HC has its issues.

clsid
11th December 2009, 18:04
Media Player Classic ignores the preferred filter stuff that was added to Windows 7. So if you only use MPC and not other players, then you do not need to use this tool.

kool

Yes I only use MPC-HC for all media files expect for DVDs I use Power DVD, and musc WMP.

Is halli spilitter is must to use with ffdshow and mpc-hc 64bit for playing files?

clsid
11th December 2009, 23:08
It is not a requirement, but I do recommended using Haali splitter.

I also recommend using the 32-bit version of MPC-HC, even on a 64-bit version of Windows. It simply has better compatibility and stability.

kool

Ok, Thanks alot. Than I will use the 32bit MPC-HC + Halli Spilitter and 64Bit FFDShow. Hope this is the right move.

Just use a Codec Package (http://shark007.net/win7codecs.html) properly built to deal with the issues introduced by windows 7.

http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/5757/xvid.jpg

I suggest you try your best to get your system back to a 'clean windows 7 environment' before using this installation.
Uninstall everything codec related, haali, xvid, ffdshow etc.
Once installed, using Reset All should repair any inconsistancies using clsid's tool may have caused.

Shark007, you've been warned before for accusing clsid's tool of having bugs that it never actually had, and backtracking when called on it, for the purpose of spamming your tool. Since you don't make money on it, I can only assume it's an ego thing. Now, if you don't back up your post concerning 'inconsistencies' and any steps you've taken to report them to clsid, you'll be reamed by people who know what they're talking about. Here, we back things up by facts, not FUD.

The fact is, your tool can work with Media Foundation where clsid's can't, and that's the only provable difference. (If yours even can, I haven't seen proof yet.) If it does more, start articulating what yours does instead of everything clsid's doesn't.

You have the option of creating your own thread - in fact I encourage it, so that you can link straight to it instead of putting a sales pitch in unrelated threads. Since you're only advertising in here and have no thread, it looks doubly spammy.

As an aside, your site looks terrible on Firefox. I haven't checked other browsers, but the level of non-professionalism goes through the roof when I see it.

Lets say my system is perfectly clean, I can name every single .ax by its md5 etc... Should I still uninstall everything and then set all things back? I'm sorry, but I'd rather gives up on this WMP thing...
Also does this pack allows to configure only mediafondation in WMP and doesn't do any extra stuff behind the scene? Because why I love clsid's tool - it does what I expect and nothing more.

foxyshadis, since you are a doom9 moderator, you query's will be answered.

Now, if you don't back up your post concerning 'inconsistencies' 'inconsistancies', in this instance, refers to the tools' ability to modify the registry and rename system files. So, as a courtesy to a new user, I suggested using Reset All from me Settings Application which would set these things back to Windows 7 defaults.

I am not advertising anything. The user quoted in my post cleary stated he was open to an alternative that would provide the solution he seeks.
I provided a solution, that works.

Keiyakusha, i decline to answer because the moderator would assume i was advertising further.

If the moderator is so inclined, you are welcome to split this thread as you see fit.

I am sorry if i knotted someones drawers.

I agree - this thread is to discuss the specific tool clsid has developed.

Other tools should be in their own thread and if necessary, the many experienced users on doom9 will point newbies to the best tool for their needs. There's plenty of people here who know what they're doing and will gladly help others.

While mindful of the intention, this kind of post seems self-serving and tasteless.

Ok...will things be fine with wmp 11 64bit?

clsid
15th December 2009, 22:51
Things will be fine with whatever player you choose to use. Just remember that 32-bit programs require 32-bit DirectShow filters, and 64-bit programs require 64-bit filters. You can have both the 32-bit and 64-bit ffdshow installed at the same time without problem. Search the forum if you need a 64-bit version of Haali. Or if you want an easy to use all-in-one pack, go here (http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm).

dimitrik

I don't know where to get it standalone, because Haali has not released the 64-bit version on his website, but it is definitely included in K-Lite codec pack x64.

I assume if you want none of the other codecs, you can install just that and de-select everything else (though I personally can't be bothered with individual codec configuration so I just install the whole thing)

Yes I would appreciate this.

The reason is I could only get WMP to use the XviD codec by using Shark007's tool and selecting the option "Disable Windows DMO codecs".

No matter what option I used in your tool, I couldn't get WMP to use the XviD codec. I figure adding this feature would allow me and possibly other users to select the XviD codec.

Thanks.

Found way to disable MF in WMP/WMC specially for needed extension (mp4 for example) without completly disabling it for all files.
For these go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Media Foundation\ByteStreamHandlers found needed file extension and rename key (delete will not work here) to something wrong, e.g. change .mp4 key value from {271C3902-6095-4c45-A22F-20091816EE9E} to {271C3902-6095-4c45-A22F-20091816EE9A}
This will break image thumbnailing for all *.mp4 files by Windows codecs but enable DirectShow decoders for *.mp4 in WMP/WMC.

Sorry if this already has been asked. But would it be possible to change de preferred codec for WAV-files only? I've installed AC3Filter to playback DTSWAV files and although they play fine with GraphEdit in Win7, Media Player just plays back noise. So it seems it doesn't use AC3Filter at all.

clsid
19th December 2009, 15:09
You could try with the file rename tweaks for Media Foundation and the Microsoft audio decoder, but I don't know if that is going to make a difference with DTSWAV.

In general you should just avoid using WMP, as it just likes to do weird stuff, mostly with bad results.

v2.5 is available

Tryed to disable MF for file extension with tweaker and got error: "Failed to change registry key access permissions for: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows Media Foundation\ByteStreamHandlers\.3gp"

Windows 7 32 Ultimate, UAC disabled. Running in administrator mode didn`t help.
I must manually change permissions for registry keys or it`s tweaker bug? (after manual setting permission for key, all works fine)

This selective disabling of MF is very interesting (personally I could do with totally disabling it:rolleyes:).

Does it by any chance affect if you can use ffdshow's audio decoder in WMP/WMC?

I would love to be able to do that because in addition to all its myriad capabilities, the stream switcher enables playing .avi files with multiple audio streams (I know it's a silly thing to do but I have some and can't be bothered to re-mux them).
The only alternative is to use Haali splitter for avi's which enables you to select audio streams but has very slow seeking (in avi's only).

Shii
21st December 2009, 11:30
There is a way to do that without disabling MF for avi and with only ffdshow audio decoder. I`ll post solution soon after additional testing.

Here it is.

First, open ffdshow Audio decoder configuration, then:
1) in Codecs section set mp3lib or libavcodec for MP3 (not sure about best lib, but heard that libmad has some bugs with VFR MP3)
2) in Stream switcher set Enable
3) in Output section set "Connect to:" to DirectSound, then uncheck "Apply only to S/PDIF output".

Second, open Tool for changing preferred DirectShow filters in Windows 7, select ffdshow as default mp3 decoder and apply changes.

Now test playback of your avi files with multiple audio streams. Stream can be changed via Media Player standart interface or via ffdshow icon in tray.

Without step 3 above, WMP may stupidly insert the Microsoft audio decoder into the graph.
An alternative solution would be to disable the Microsoft audio decoder, although that has the side effect that live TV playback in Media Center can break.

First of all, thanks to both of you for your help.

Without step 3 above, WMP may stupidly insert the Microsoft audio decoder into the graph.
An alternative solution would be to disable the Microsoft audio decoder, although that has the side effect that live TV playback in Media Center can break.

Does disabling MF solve that? I mean is there a way to enable ffdshow audio without breaking live TV, e.g. by keeping the MS decoder for live TV or even replacing it with ffdshow?

Otherwise Win7 is kinda useless as an OS for HTPC systems:mad:
