View Full Version : Is it possible to extra from a sup the files as pngs and then convert to vobsub?

I thought I read a post where someone did this but I can't find it now and I can't remeber if they were talking about burned in subtitles or not.

I have a .sup file taken from a blu-ray disc via eac3to. Neither SupRead or Subtitle Creator displays this file, although I believe Suptitle Creator doesn't currently have blu-ray .sup support. Supread just displays black images and won't output the files to .bmps or .pngs.

Suprip on the other hand displays them, but it doesn't box the letters correctly so I can't use that method right now (although the author said he's working on it, bless his heart). I'm searching for an alternative method in the meantime though.

Now Suprip does output the file to a series of .png files. There is about ten lines of text per picture.

Now my question is, is there anyway to convert the series of .png's to a vobsub file? I know I'll lose quality, but that's ok for now.

On a bit of a side note, do you think there's any hope in the future of native .sup file support in programs like xmbc? I'm thinking of encoding my movies and muxing them with the .sup file and crossing my fingers that eventually a plugin is released but I don't know how possible or if something like that isn't even possible.

Hi,

Maybe there's a way: First have a look at the following post:
http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=1183172&postcount=7

Then you must batch convert your png file to low def (720x480 for NTSC or 720x576 for PAL) and 4 colours.
Then you have to generate a text file like the one described in the post above and you may finally open the converted subtitles with SubtitleCreator. After you've opened it, just save it as VobSub.

This doesn't look easy but will work.

Cheers
