Extract Subtitles from Divx6

i would like to extract from a divx 6 file the subtitles and maybe the audio. How can i do it?

The subtitles are most likely hardsubbed, so you will have to use OCR with e.g. SubRip.

For the audio, VirtualDubMod (that's pretty much the only thing it's still good for) if you want a GUI. ffmpeg if you're comfortable enough with the command-line (just copying the audio isn't complicated though).

Old tools are old... That doesn't necessarily mean they are bad, though. If some people find they suit their needs, that's perfectly fine. All I'm saying is that nowadays, VDubMod in itself doesn't have much features that other tools don't.

Mmmm... its sound little strange. Maybe im wrong, but when a subtitle is ipressed, i cand switch off. While with a divx that i made with drdivx, i can switch and change with my Home Player. So i guess that inside Div6 there are simple subtitle.... yes?

Okay, so it's softsubbed. In that case, VDubMod will let you extract them as well.

If the subtitles are switchable then they are XSUB tracks in DivX Media Format.
These files usually have .divx extension instaed of .avi.
VDubMod won't recognize XSUB tracks. As it was said it is old.
It can still demux audio/video parts.

If by extracting subtitles you mean extracting XSUB track in a separate file then you can do it with DivXMux.
But an XSUB file is not of much use except muxing it again with another video/audio files.

If you mean extracting subs as bitmaps I don' know. I am not aware of any tools that does that.
I am looking for one too.
I read in some posts that it is impossible.
But someone with more knowledge can better answer that.

Yes, u are right. Divx6 is a container, and my idea to extract the subtitles, was malsane :D

Not necessarily. Though it is not supposed to be supported, it is also possible to mux SRT or SSA subtitles into an AVI using VDMod and get away with it in most players.

I admit a didn't know about the divxsubs, though, so I assumed it was an AVI with the subs muxed when it's maybe not the case.
