View Full Version : VSFilter crashing Media Player Classic

It seems like whenever I open a x264 MKV file with subtitles with Media Player Classic, the program would stall and crash. It would work sometimes but most of the times, it would crash.

I am guessing the problem comes from the fact that I'm using Haali Renderer in MPC because if I switch to VMR9, everything would run perfectly except for the washed out images which I really can't stand. Haali Renderer gives me the best looking images that is why I am sticking with it.

If I tell DirectVobSub to "Do not load" then there is no problem. I already unchecked "Auto-load subtitles" in MPC but I don't think that is the real issue.

I've got the following codecs installed:

CoreAVC
ffdshow (disabled for H264)
AC3Filter

Yes, it seems to be an incompatibility with Haali's renderer. However, I think it may also be related to the graphics drivers, because there are many people here who use Haali renderer and VSFilter.

What version of vsfilter are you using? Try downgrading or upgrading it.

I am using the newest version (2.39), but it also happens with older versions.

Try Insurgent to fix that issue, get it from http://www.cccp-project.net/

How would help fix a deadlock bug in MPC? It doesn't.

The problem doesn't lie in MPC but in the directshow filters.

I have the same problem using Haali Renderer, VSFilter 2.39 and MPC-HC 716.

It is actually the result of a deadlock caused by a buggy DirectShow function (GetFilterByName) form the DS baseclasses. A workaround for that problem will be implemented in MPC soon.

Casimir has posted a fixed build in the Media Player Classic Home Cinema thread, which seems to fix the problem:
