View Full Version : Auto-detect automatically playing DVD subs?

One of the most annoying things in ripping a DVD, to me, is to discover too late that those automatically playing subs during the movie weren't hardcoded - there was simply a flag somewhere that told the DVD player to play the English subtitle track for a short period of time while some other language was being spoken.

This is even worse when I did not watch the DVD first.

Is there any way to auto-detect that there are optional subtitles played for a short section by default, so that I may then rip that section of the subs to text?

Thanks!

Hi!

Not "auto-detect", but you could simply load the DVD into DVDSubEdit and separately perform the two following procedures:

1) Set it to "Show only forced subtitles" - and if there are no "forced" subtitles, uncheck that and then

2) Under "Subpic selections", click on the down arrow to the right of "All streams" and see if there are any "extra" English audiostreams

This is even worse when I did not watch the DVD first.Why is this "worse"?

Thanks for the tips, setarip :)

By worse, I meant that a while ago, I had blindly backed up a DVD, omitting subs and extra audio tracks. The kids destroyed the original, and the backup had no subs for those one or two scenes with characters not speaking English.

The kids destroyed the originalEverybody always blames "The Kids" - I blame "The Grandkids" (But I always make full backup DVDs) ;>}
