View Full Version : Muxing DVD captions into VOBs?

Interesting situation I hadn't ever thought of before until yesterday- I have a DVD that needs to be captioned for a client, which was originally authored in iDVD. Problem is that the menu is kind of fancy, we don't have the original project files, and we use DVD Studio Pro (which won't open iDVD projects anyway), so we'd like to try to avoid having to re-create the menu and re-authoring the DVD.

Is there a way to mux the DVD subtitle data (which we can generate) with the existing vob files? I know I could convert the VOBs back to straight up MPEG2, and then multiplex the captions with the MPEG2 files, but then we'd be losing the navigation and would have to redo the structure anyway.

Any ideas?

Take a look at 'spumux' from the dvdauthor package (included in most linux distributions, a windows version is available if you google for it). You may also find 'dvdunauthor' from the same package useful: it unpacks the ifo & vob files of a dvd image into a set of vob sources and an xml file that you can then modify and repack with 'dvdauthor'. Very useful for this kind of project.

Hi,

Have a look at SubtitleCreator's DVD authoring wizard.
