Program to create burned-in or hardcoded captions while keeping timing?

Hi all... I'm new to this forum and you all look like you may be able to answer a few questions for me.

I am looking for a program that will create either hardcoded or burned in captions - the one that creates a new black box below the .avi, etc. - similar to Camtasia.

And although Camtasia works great, if I created my captions in another program, the "timing" is not retained when I bring it in or, more importantly, out of Camtasia.

I'm fine using Camtasia for my timing, but is there a way to retain my "timing" in order to import into another program?

For the subtitling, I may use either Subtitle Workshop, or maybe even Limony (if I could find a more useful guide than the manual it comes with :) ) There's no way I could afford Caption Maker ($6K) or Scenarist ($10K ++) which I'm sure does these things.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure what "system info" you need, but I have both XP and Vista64 available.

Although intimidating, I'll see if someone around here with more computer know-how can figure that one out... it looks really complex.

I don't know about a "black box" for the subtitles but you can just put VSFilter.dll into your AVISynth plugin directory and use the textsub to add it to the script (probably at the end of the script). This will hard code the subs to the image. Use any of the many many encoding GUI's on here which are a front end for AVISynth to first make the script.

EDIT: Better yet, Just read this (http://avisynth.org.ru/docs/english/externalfilters/vsfilter.htm). You may not need to call textsub, but maybe vobsub to do this.
