DvdSubEdit- Dispapearing 4:3 subs problem Help?

I'm hoping somone/anyone can resolve this problem for me.

When i author a 16:9 widescreen dvd using DvdAuthor and choose to add only 1 subtitle stream, which will be used for both viewing on 4:3 tv and 16:9 widescreen tv. Obviously the subtitle stream i create is set to (4:3 stream). (Just wanted t make that clear)
Anyway, when i play the finished and burned dvd on any tv , whether it be 4:3 square tv or 16:9 widescreen tv the subtitles show up fine. Great. But lately i like to use 'DvdSubEdit' to position my subtitles exactly where i want them on the screen.

So when i go to do that in DvdSubEdit, I have the 'sub picture' dropdown menu set to "All Streams" , which is kind of obvious as i only have 1 sub stream anyway.

So i go ahead and position my subs, save my progress, then finally save all modifications. Job done. Burn the dvd --->

But now when i watch the dvd on a 4:3 square tv the subtitles don't show up. They are not there :(
But when i watch the dvd on a 16:9 widescreen tv the subtitles are there.

Why are they not showing up on my 4:3 tv anymore??? :(

I have used 'DvdSubEdit' before many times when i was working with dvds that had 2 subtitle streams. 1 stream for 4:3 and 1 stream for 16:9.

If it will help i will make some screen caps of DvdSubEdit for you so you can see what settings i have on. But i usually go with default. I rarely change anything.

Hi!But lately i like to use 'DvdSubEdit' to position my subtitles exactly where i want them on the screen.If I remember correctly, you have to make certain that any changes of vertical position have to be in multiples of two (NOT odd)...

Allthough i can't see why on earth that should be the case. 'lol I'm gonna give it a shot anyway. Because the vertical postition i have been using is '37' , but thats the position i want. Are you saying i'd have to change it to 28 or 44 etc... ? Is this what you mean? I hope this isn't the case :(

The problem could have two origins:
- you moved your subpics outside of the screen (I think it's unlikely)
- DVDSubEdit created subpics that your player does not like (that's quite possible).
two things you might want to try:
- Does the subpictures show in a soft player (for example media player classic)?
- Can you use the latest beta of DVDSubEdit? As setarip_old mentioned, some players have problems with how earlier versions of DVDSE organize the data, resulting in some of the subtitles not showing. The latest beta fixes the problem, you might want to try that.

Because the vertical postition i have been using is '37' , but thats the position i want. Are you saying i'd have to change it to 28 or 44 etc... ?I'm saying that when shifting subs from their ORIGINAL position, the shift must be in increments of TWO.

e.g. If the ORIGINAL position was 33 (or any other odd number), shifting the subs to 37 (or any other odd number) should be fine - BUT, if the ORIGINAL position was 32 (or any other even number), you'd have to shift the subs to 36 or 38 (or any other even number)...

Oh right, ok. Well i usually just tick the 'Flush' box then move the red line up until it reaches the height i want (37) usually. I never noticed the original position number of my subs before. I'll go back and have another look tomorrow. But i will try out the new BETA version , thanx for the link. :)
