ASXGui 1.9.4 (Any Video to MP4/x264/AAC or MKV/x264/AC3)

any idea what causes this, this happened to me today ( after a 2 pass encode, where each pass was 20 hours in legnth ) it is stuck on audio for 5 hours i'm going to try and mux the .mp4 and .ac3 to see if it will work. using 1.8.3 - marty.

See if your mkv is actually there first. I'm actually not 100% sure what's been causing this. I keep coming up with new ways to try to detect the problem and it keeps happening with every update I do. If you could post your log it'd be great. I don't know for sure if it'll help, but maybe. I'm sure it's not a problem with the actual programs themselves, but a problem with how asxgui reads the data from the programs.

No such disabling of updates yet, but I guess I could add that if you want. It really isn't that annoying if you have the latest version since it only downloads a small text file to check the current version. Although it might be slow on starting up if you aren't connected to the internet.

Also, I'm not quite sure what to do about your psp encode, maybe try updating your codecs.

Also, you said your sources were m4v podcasts right? Does it work if you rename them to mp4?

1. mostly m4vs coz they look the best at that filesize.. but i do have xvid avis and wmvs.. i'll rename it and try again..
2. i'll update all my codec/codec packs..
3. the update at startup slows down program startup, not a big deal..

Do you get all of the following files in the Program Files\ASXGui:

dgindex.avs
dgindex.d2v
tracks.txt
avs2avi.avs
avs2avi.avi

and though it says file not found, is d2v.txt actually in the folder anyway? (This would mean I need to fix the timing of looking for that file)

Yeah sounds like you need admin rights. Try loading it with administrator right (right click when opening) or disable the UAC prompt. I wouldn't recommend disabling the UAC prompt for most users though, unless you really know what you're doing.

Does the encoding video go though just fine? If so, you shouldn't be having a problem with admin rights.

Everything looks okay from here. If you open Avisynth.avs in a media player do you get any errors?

Media Player can play back the file and PowerDVD 7.3 play back the file ok :confused:

maybe putting in a process checker to hold off running other programs until the one previous has been cleared from the memory...

I know, that's something I need to change. When I first created this program I wasn't installing it like a normal program so I just used the folder ASXGui was in to make things easier. Now, it seems it has made things harder, so I need to change this. Maybe for 2.0.0

I'm using 1.85 to create an mp4 file with the profile set to IPhone (also tried with "Newer IPods"). Encoding seems to go fine, and the mp4 plays fine in VLC, but when I try to import the movie into iTunes, it doesn't "take". There are no error messages, so I'm not sure if it's a codec problem, or a file problem, or what.

Any ideas? I suspect this is something really simple.

BTW, I used Super to encode an avs script to an mp4 file, and it worked fine (that is, imported into iTunes on on to my iPhone), but Super mucks with the registry and break Avisynth, so I don't want to use it again.

I think you're right. The last line of encoding is

tools\mp4box -add video.mp4 -add audio.mp4 -fps 29.97 -tmp tools -new "C:\v\ci\scripts\q20.mp4"

And the mp4box help shows that ipod and psp need special flags:

-ipod rewrites the file for iPod
-psp rewrites the file for PSP devices

Fortunately, the author of ASXGui seems pretty responsive to issues like this, maybe I'll see 1.86 auto-load before long. I'm guessing the best way to do this would be to add PSP and IPod radiobox in the Output Format pane, and tie that setting to the profiles.

Thanks for the info. Most of the videos I've made so far with the iphone setting have worked just fine in my iPhone so I didn't know about that. I'll make sure to add it to my list of things for the next version.

I know some of my older ipod profiles caused the very error you described but eventually I changed it to only use 1 reference frame instead of 3 and that seemed to fix it. Make sure it's set to 1 ref frame for now (in advanced x264 settings) but I'll work on adding the -ipod switch for the ipod profiles.

After you click encode, are you able to open avisynth.avs from ASXGui's program directory in another program, such as WMP without error?

-FIXED: ASXGui should now make sure all tools are closed before deleting temporary files

If you have profiles from an earlier version, you will have to check the "Format for iPod" check box and re-save all iPod profiles

Thx! Something wrong with the frame rate and "auto crop black bars". It should be 960x720. If I change "Frame Rate" from 23.976 to 59.94 or not use option "Frame Rate", resolution automatically going down to 720x480.

I'm not having problems myself. What type of input file are you using? Are you enforcing a x264 profile? Some of those have requirements for resolution and frame rate.

With the new version I'm getting the message 'error reading input file'. When I try to quit, it tells me that do I really want to, as its still encoding, even though the gui says finished.

The file is 14GB BTW...

It's because by default, ASXGui uses my Automatic Bitrate algorithm, which is based on quality and not file size. If you want it to be smaller, you can simply set a custom bitrate (or target file size), but make sure to set the resolution manually at 640x480, or else the automatic resolution algorithm will reduce the resolution to match the bitrate. Though setting the bitrate lower than the xvid may produce decent video quality, it won't be as good as the default. (and recompressing a video always lowers the quality a little unless you're use a lossless codec)

If it were me, I'd just play it safe and keep it at default, as the file size isn't that large, but you could probably go as low as 768kbps and still produce decent (not great) quality.

Also, can you have option to re-direct files to output folder and not to delete them if cancel job? This is useful to test if encode is working as it should (or output is what you like...saves waiting for a few hours)

I am having a couple of little issues and I am wondering if you would know the reasons behind them:


a. When encoding a .MOV sized at 600x400 into a .MP4, the size of the video is changed to 608x405.

Any idea why ?


b. When placing the same .MOV with an audio track at standard wav specs (44.1 128 16 stereo),everything is fine until the very last frame of the .MP4 where we suddendy hear a CRACK noise at the end of the audio track... very very frustrating...

Hmm, that sounds strange. Are you using a different DPI or something? This is what it should look like:

Well, it's probably actually 608x400, but with a SAR of 80/81 (0.9877) or so having the decompressor virtually resize it to 608x405

The reason it resized it to 608x400 is so that it can have each dimension divisible by 16, which I guess makes it easier for x264 to compress or something.

Haven't had the crack problem myself. But, if it's limited to wav tracks inside of quicktime files, maybe try transcoding the audio to another format and using separate audio file instead. I'll see if I can do some testing with that format (I may need a sample, not sure if I have a MOV with wav audio)

My DPI is 125 as I have a widescreen monitor....what is you gui written in....in any case it seems to be working now. I can see the target size box 4 now.

Couple of other suggestions.

1. Your minimal AAC rate is 96...there are some in Hydrogen audio who feel 80 is pretty much the equivalent of 128 mp3. Perhaps you could add this as the lower bound.

2. Could you put in an option for different resizers? I am glad you use Lanzcos, so no need for other options (just a though for others), but perhaps you could state in the GUI it is Lanzcos so you don't get bugged about it again.

3. Maybe you could add shutdown when done? You can get a proper shutdown at:

then use shutdown -u -t 0 to turn off PC. That would be cool

ASXGui looks very promising, but sadly it doesn't work for me:

"avs2wav.exe has stopped working"

After that the application hangs. I have tried lots of different Avi Files (with mp3 audio), and avs2wav.exe always crashes. Video encoding works fine.

Maybe it's because i'm using Vista 64?
