I think I have an idea of what's causing this, similar to one of the first bugs. Are you running XP (or lower)?
Whenever I add a lot of buttons and code in one update I might miss a few lines where it needs to set the current working directory (which gets changed when open or save dialogs appear) to the application directory. It's not a problem in vista, so I don't often run into it myself.
I'm going to go do some tests in XP and if they go good then I should have 1.6.3 up later today
EDIT: I was right, everything seems to be working good in 1.6.3 in XP. I'll upload it a little later today.

1.6.3 Released
-FIXED: Mpeg-2 files should now load properly in Windows XP (and lower)
-FIXED: Mpeg2 temporary job files will now be deleted when the job is deleted.
Download ASXGui 1.6.3 (http://www.mediafire.com/?nbyhffdvibm)
Yes, I have XP SP3.
New ver. 1.6.3 works fine (no the bugs and a bags too. LOL)
Thank you!
Decided to try 1.6.3, but when trying to convert VTS_x files to either mkv or mp4, I get "error reading input file, would you like to force decoding by Directshow.
What could be wrong?

Are you sure you have Avisynth installed?
You're getting that on a vob/mpg file? That error shouldn't actually come up on mpeg2 sources since those are being opened through DGIndex. That error is specifically saying x264 couldn't open the Avisynth script created by ASXGui. If you are sure you have Avisynth installed, then leave the error message up and answer me these:
- Is there a DGIndex.d2v file in the program folder? (If not, are there any other d2v files there?)
-Can you open Avisynth.avs in a Media Player or Virtualdub?
Now close ASXGui and post the contents of encode.log

1.6.4 Released
-FIXED: When encoding from AVS source, it no longer prompts to load AVS audio when the job is loaded.
Download ASXGui 1.6.4 (http://www.mediafire.com/?9sjewcm4jxr)
O.K., just tried 1.6.4.
Got a message: "Error reading input file, would you like to force decoding by Directshow?"
Also, got an MS error: "avs2wav.exe has stopped working" and asking if I want to check for an online solution, or close the program.
In the ASXGui+ folder, , I don't see DGIndex.d2v file, nor any d2v files. I do have DGIndex app in the Tools folder.
Vista SP1, AVISynth 2.5.7.
BTW, the link for the full installer doesn't work.

Hmm, it sounds like DGIndex is not working correctly. Have you tried opening your source file directly in DGIndex and saving a d2v to see if that works? What type of file exactly is your source file?
Also, you should post your encode.log so I can see if there are any problems with the commands ASXGui generated. :logfile:
BTW I fixed the installer link

I'v try it with many profiles. I'v never get the output file but in the ASXgui directory i can see the video file(mp4-withuot sound) and the Audio file(AC3).
Do you know what's the problem , I think it's somthing with the Audio encoding.
Thanks

Hmm, try posting encode.log after this issue happens. I haven't run into this problem myself.
A Couple of questions:
-Do you see an audio.mp4 file in the program folder?
-Do you get any error messages? Such as an error message from avs2wav or neroaacenc?
-If you wait a while, does the muxing bar ever suddenly show, or does the final output file suddenly show? (even without audio or muxing bars showing)
Thanks

Hi thanks for help,
1. No Audio.mp4

One thing I noticed in the first encode in your log is the lines:
Creating Avisynth File...
File is MPEG2, using MPEG2Source()
seems to appear several times, but with no other avisynth commands listed (even during the encode). This indicates that the encoding process was started several times, which may mess something up.
I also notice it shows the Nero digital logo without showing any avs2wav information, as well as no mp4box information. This usually happens when avs2wav messes up. But I usually get an error message with that. Are you able to open "2 gamadei halaila.ac3" in a media player? If not you may need to download a codec for it. I use ac3filter (http://ac3filter.net/project/1/releases).
If you can play the ac3 file in a media player, try downloading WAVI (http://sourceforge.net/projects/wavi-avi2wav/), extracting it to ASXGui's tools folder, and renaming wavi.exe to avs2wav.exe and seeing if it makes a difference.
I don't think the problem is on ASXGui's end, but more likely a problem with you computer's compatibility with one of the tools included or the file you're trying to convert.

Hello,
I am testing out your little software right now. While waiting for it to complete. I have a few questions/concerns that pops into my head.
1. Is there place where I can select my audio? I am testing a music video .vob file with 2 audio tracks. I guess I am looking for a place where I can select which audio tracks or keep both audio tracks for the output file. Because sometimes the first audio is not the audio that user wants.
2. Is the audio normalize by default?
Well that's it for now until my first test completes. I have a bunch of music videos in .vob format and looking for a simple encoder that can batch convert it into .mkv with two audio tracks and with the quality that is closest to the original. So, I guess I really like your Auto Resize because I don't even know the quality of each .vob file. I have some .vob file with bad picture quality that is comparable to VCD quality, but the file size is 150MB + for a 5 min. songs.
Thanks!

1. By default, ASXGui loads the first audio track from a VOB. If you want to select a different track, you can do so from the separate audio track option. If you want to select a separate audio track from a VOB, right now the only way to do that is open the VOB, wait for reading MPEG to finish, go to the ASXGui folder and copy the audio track you want to a different folder (or else it will be deleted). Then Load that copied file in the separate audio track box. Of course if you do it this way delays won't be factored in.
I'd like to find a way to simplify this if at all possible, but with the way DGIndex stores its tracks I'm not sure if I'd be able to. DGIndex only reports the name of the first audio track to me. If it were able to report the names of the others, then maybe I'd be able to do something here.
2. Right now ASXGui only normalizes audio if you downmix to stereo because that usually results in a quieter audio stream. If you want this, I can add t so it always normalizes.

Create function which will find all .ac3 .mp2 ... files in directory and then add them to specific component.
Hmm, I guess that's possible, then the user could just select which file they want to use. Hmm, sounds like a good starting point at least. Does DGIndex only output ac3, mp2 and wav files for audio tracks?
Right now I use the
__aud__
function in the template.avs file to return the first audio track demuxed. I PM'd neuron2 asking if he could add
__aud2__
__aud3__
etc and that would be the easiest way, but maybe I could figure something out in the mean time.

Ah yes of course lol.
Yes, Please allow users to select which audio to use, prioritize multi audio tracks and support of multi-audio tracks... as .mkv file support mulitple audio.
Yes, Please normalize audio by default or have a check box for it. As I don't see why users don't want higher audio when they have a low audio file...To me, I think mind as well encode the audio if I am encoding the video already....
Suggestion:
Since this is suppose to be a simple fast batch UI. I think it should have a flow when setting up a large queue. I find it weird when setting up my queue. The process doesn't flow easily.
I first open my .vob file and let DGIndex.exe analyzes the mpeg file. Then I move down and select Output format. Next is the Options box, and the box below that. But I find it weird to click on the Job Queue in order to add it to my queue. I think you should have a Add to Queue button right on the front of the UI not embedded in any tab b/c that's another click. Plus I think you should auto generate the new output file name base on the input file and just change the extention from .vob to .mkv. Again I find it weird when I have to give it a name when I just want to convert from .vob to .mkv. Whatever the input filename is..the output filename should be the same thing just .mkv/mp4 right?
So, to sum this all up. Please have the Add Job button under the Job Queue tab outside by itself so right after all the settings are check and set up...I would have to click the Add Job to add to queue. And of course the new file would have the same file name as the import file just a .mkv/mp4 extention.
Thanks

Hm, sounds good, I'm going to have to deal with the problem of opening multiple tracks first though.

I often don't re-encode my audio to keep the original bit-for bit when converting from an HDTV stream or DVD to mkv. But I can see the need for normalize as being default.
Suggestion:

Yeah, I think I noticed that too while I was working on the queue GUI. I'd have to figure out what the best way of doing this would be.
I think you should auto generate the new output file name base on the input file and just change the extention from .vob to .mkv.
That can be easily done.
These all sound like good ideas, or at least enough to get me started on 1.7.0
Thanks everybody.

Yes, you're right. But sometimes from a DVD the ac3 is very soft. And since we're encoding..mind as well normalize and convert the audio. But you can have a check box for user to check to normalize or not would be fine.
I have a few questions for you hopefully you can briefly explain for my understanding:
1. How is the output filesize is calculated? I choose the default Auto Resize and Auto Bitrate and from a 120MB .vob file, it outputs a 62.6MB .mkv file. I am very impress with the quality of the .mkv file. So I was just wondering how that works.
2. Like I said before, I have a lot of .vob files and would like to convert them into .mkv. It would be a pain for me to sit here and load every .vob files. I was thinking to create a little VB apps to generate the Jobs.ini file and your apps reads it and convert it. But I am not sure how you generate the Jobs.ini file. And I guess because each file is different that why you analyze it first...so hopefully you can show me some tricks so that I can batch create the Jobs.ini and convert my 3000+ .vob files.
I stumbled on 2 error in Vista. Hopefully this can help you.
Error #1: When I input the .vob file and when DGIndex kicks off. I get an error AVS2AVI, if I click Close the Program and it still continues. Screen shot here

Error #2: After the test of the above file that I got the error above. I left everything as is and imported another .vob file and I again DGIndex kicks off and right away I get this error.

Next, I click Continue on the error, but nothing happen. The Reading MPGE File Please Wait stays there forever.

If you notice on the first page, I put it in the notes, that before I used ASXGui I often used Nero Recode to do my AVC encodings. In Nero Recode, they have an automatic resize based on bitrate option. I decided to create an algorithm that not only will make an automatic resize for any bitrate, but also take that and do it in reverse, and apply an automatic bitrate based on the resolution. The algorithm isn't exactly the same as Nero's but it's very close, and seems to work pretty good. Plus I'm using the x264 codec instead of Nero Digital, so I have a lot of more options, many of which are defaulted very high in ASXGui.
2. Like I said before, I have a lot of .vob files and would like to convert them into .mkv. It would be a pain for me to sit here and load every .vob files. And I guess because each file is different that why you analyze it first...so hopefully you can show me some tricks so that I can batch create the Jobs.ini and convert my 3000+ .vob files.
Wow that's a lot of VOBs
Anyways, what I would do, is make one job for a vob, then open jobs.ini. Since the automatic resolution and automatic bitrates are calculated in ASXGui, and not stored in Jobs.ini, you don't need to worry about that. Jobs.ini simply stores your settings. Copy the whole job (starts with Job=, and ends with END) All you would have to do is change the input file name (Input= ) to whatever the input file is, and if you want (I don't think it's required) remove the file listed under MPGAudio.
I stumbled on 2 error in Vista. Hopefully this can help you.
Do You get these errors in XP? (if you have XP)
Error #1: When I input the .vob file and when DGIndex kicks off. I get an error AVS2AVI, if I click Close the Program and it still continues.
While the program is displaying this error answer this:
Do you have all these files?
ASXGui\tools\avs2avi.exe
ASXGui\tools\mediainfo.exe
ASXGui\tools\DGDecode.dll
ASXGui\avs2avi.avs
ASXGui\DGIndex.d2v
Do you have any of the files this makes?
ASXGui\avs2avi.avi
ASXGui\d2v.txt
Error #2: After the test of the above file that I got the error above. I left everything as is and imported another .vob file and I again DGIndex kicks off and right away I get this error.
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j230/evandam/DGIndexCrash.jpg
Do you have ASXGui\tools\template.avs?
These seem like strange errors, which I haven't encountered before. Hmm. Do you have UAC on or off? Try turning it off and see if that makes a difference. Also is your .NET framework up to date?
EDIT: I may have found the problem. It seems to happen when you use the same mpeg2 file to make multiple jobs, am I right? If that's where you're having the problem, it will be fixed in the next version.
Yo, morphy!!
Is x264farm fully supported in your prog? I have a few people who are really interested, and your program was rumored to support it in full. Is this true?

I know nothing about x264farm sorry. If it works somehow then great, but I didn't design ASXGui with that in mind and I don't know how it's used sorry.

I suppose this will answer any question about x264farm
Think that x264farm is not used by asx..
Okay, I guess it was just a rumor. Thanks anyways though.

1.7.0 Released
-ADDED: ability to choose between different audio tracks on mpeg-2 files.
-ADDED: Audio is now normalized when re-encoded
-ADDED: The output filename is now auto-generated from the input file name.
-CHANGED: Moved "Add Job" button down by "Start Encoding" button for easier access.
-CHANGED: Disabled most of the auto tab switching, so ASXGui stays on the tab you're on (except when you first start encoding, it switches to the progress tab)
-FIXED: You may now delete Jobs during encoding without error. (Current job can't be deleted)
-FIXED: bug where progress bars didn't display properly.
-FIXED: Double clicking a Job now takes less time for a mpeg-2 based Job.
-FIXED: Bug with Autocrop being used twice
-Updated programs
Download ASXGui 1.7.0 (http://www.mediafire.com/?zycmmm0bjmt)
I am still planning to add multi-track writing in a future release.
EDIT: I just noticed that Autocrop isn't working right now. I'm pretty sure I know why, (Mediainfo was updated and I forgot to update autocrop's way of reading mediainfo's information) I should have 1.7.1 out tomorrow
Wow, that's fast!!! I'll give it a try this weekend.
I am still planning to add multi-track writing in a future release.
I can't wait for the multi-track audio support!!!
Keep up the good work morphinapg !!!
Thanks

I can't save a profiles anymore...
Yes you can, I just changed "Save" and "Del" to "+" and "-"
-ADDED: ability to choose between different audio tracks on mpeg-2 files.
Suggestion:
Can you please auto select the Audio Track to 1 instead of leaving it as "default". I assume most people would want to select 1 as default and they can change it if they want.
-ADDED: The output filename is now auto-generated from the input file name.
Suggestion:
Instead of what you have right now when user click the Add Job button and the Save As Window pops up. Why don't you do it like this to make things flow easier? Have a text box right under the Video File input text box with the same path as the input path. Because with that text box there, the output file will always goes to the same path as the input but with a different extention. And also have a button next to it to browse to a different output path just in case the user wants to change the output path that is different from the input path.
Also have a text box in the Output Info tab with the same file name as the input file name. Because with that text box there in the Output Info tab, users can change the output file name if they wish.
So with the two new text boxes I've suggested. Whatever the values in those text boxes would represent the output path and filename.
Questions:
1. When I click the Output Format as MKV. I notice in the Output Info tab at the Audio Format section it saids AC3. So does that means the AC3 file is going to be Normalize or just mux into the mkv file? My test file is .vob with dual ac3 audio.
Thanks
Loading a short (1 minute) DV file PAL with PCM audio. Leaving everything on default (MP4 output) an just checked the "Deinterlace".
Both passes of video encoding finished. The video is OK because I tested it.
Than the "Loading audio" remain forever.
I tested the avs file created by your program with BeSweet and was encoded OK by BeSweet.
Just ASXGui hangs up with "Loading audio".
Another things: I put the program in C > Program Files. But on C I don't have more space for temporary files. Can I change it?
I think correct is FINISHED not FINISH.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, as "Default" just means the first audio track (the list is listed alphabetically, so not necessarily in order) Neuron2 let me know he is adding the ability in DGIndex for my app to tell which order the tracks are in a future update. The reason it doesn't automatically select which track out of the list was because I tried that, and for some reason it resulted in an infinite loop, so I postponed that for now, and used "Default" instead.

I could understand why you'd want the first one, but why the second? The reason I have a save dialog is I usually save my videos to a different folder than the input, such as "My Videos" or the desktop, but I can add this if you want it (You're talking something like MeGUI has for output path right?)
Questions:
1. When I click the Output Format as MKV. I notice in the Output Info tab at the Audio Format section it saids AC3. So does that means the AC3 file is going to be Normalize or just mux into the mkv file? My test file is .vob with dual ac3 audio.

Yes, the audio is getting re-encoded to ac3 and normalized, unless you select "Don't Recompress Audio"

A few questions:
1. Does audio.mp4 appear in the program folder?
2. Does the final file appear where you saved it if you wait a while?
3. Does the last progress bar ever start doing anythig if you wait a while?
4. Can you post the contents of encode.log after such a problem occurs?
5. Does this happen every time or just once in a while?
6. Also, maybe post the contents of audio.avs (while this is happening, as that file is temporary and deletes after you close ASXGui or click stop encoding)
Another things: I put the program in C > Program Files. But on C I don't have more space for temporary files. Can I change it?
Not yet but hopefully something I want to implement in the future. I'd suggest installing ASXGui to a drive with extra space on it for now.
I think correct is FINISHED not FINISH.
lol, okay...

Not really.
I'm not sure exactly what you mean, as "Default" just means the first audio track (the list is listed alphabetically, so not necessarily in order) Neuron2 let me know he is adding the ability in DGIndex for my app to tell which order the tracks are in a future update. Oh ok, I thought "Default" was just there and I would have to select the first audio. If Default means the first audio then that's fine.
I could understand why you'd want the first one, but why the second? The reason I have a save dialog is I usually save my videos to a different folder than the input, such as "My Videos" or the desktop, but I can add this if you want it (You're talking something like MeGUI has for output path right?)
Well I was thinking something like AutoMKV where the output path is under the input path. Users can change the output path there once and for all.
Yes, the audio is getting re-encoded to ac3 and normalized, unless you select "Don't Recompress Audio"
I know you like to keep your audio...but since you're encoding the audio to aac for .mp4. Why don't you have an option for user to click to keep original ac3 or convert to aac for mkv??.
Side Question base on your own experiences:
Which is better in terms on audio quality and file size? AC3 or AAC??? A lot of newer audio format uses AAC..My Iphone uses it..most mkv files on the net uses it. So I guess AAC is better than AC3? Giving the fact that they both are normalize and the same or have close bitrate #.
A few questions:
1. Does audio.mp4 appear in the program folder?
2. Does the final file appear where you saved it if you wait a while?
3. Does the last progress bar ever start doing anythig if you wait a while?

1. No.
2. No.
3. No. Just "Loading Audio..."
4. Last lines are something like:
encoded frames: 1577/1583 (99.6%), 12.53 fps, eta 0:00:00
AC EOB marker is absent pos=64
Pass 2 Finished
AC EOB marker is absent pos=65
AC EOB marker is absent pos=64
...
AC
5. Everytime I want to encode a DV file
6. Directshowsource("D:\MiniDV\My Video-03\Video\My Video-03.avi", fps=25,seekzero=true)
Normalize()
I made antother test. Loaded the DV file into VirtualDub and encoded only the video with XviD. The audio was untouched.
The XviD file was converted to mp4 by ASXGui with no erros.
So the problem is with DV files.
Here is the file. (http://www.filebox.ro/download.php?key=789b6a26786d08c3f6fd3db9f5eb6702&lang=ro)
