Thank you very much jamos but I am more referring to the Blu-ray output. I always get the latest version of any software. Whenever I export m2ts files, they play perfect and seek just fine.
I had one attempt at making an AVCHD (Blu-ray on DVD9 for PS3) for the purpose of including subtitles. I am about to have another crack at it.
My question is, which method produces better (more reliable) results? The method on this thread, or using tsMuxeR to output Blu-ray folder structure?
Also, if I do go with tsMuxer do I leave out the "CERTIFICATE" folder for PS3 compatibility and only burn the "BDMV" folder?
Also, if I use tsMuxeR, should I still replace the BDMV (index.bdmv and Movieobject.bdmv) files with the Nero ones listed here?
I offer my gratitude to anyone that could offer some clarification here. :thanks:
PS: The only reason I am re-encoding is to include borders for the mini BD (DVD9) compatibility so I can include switchable subtitles. In the past if I had a cropped video, I just muxed into a m2ts container as cropping is not an issue here.
I do not have any issues using TSmuxer 1.50b and after, creating bd playback and AVCHD playing on the PS3 and do not have to replace anything. Now of course I always reencode the video if it is from a VC-1 BD or mkv source using megui and xolos bd profiles. My guides are exactly what steps I do. I have one for to make the video BD compliant (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=135795) and another on how to make a AVCHD (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=134348).

Two questions:
- Does this Subtittleworkshop/SUPRead method works with 720p files or only 1080p ones?
- How can i stream the result to the PS3?

Does using scenarist give us anything other than subtitles? I am using megui but using tsmuxer then tsremux to bd, works just as good except for no subtitles. Also subtitles need some work. Just exporting them from SubtitleWorkshop into scenarist leaves them out of sync and hard to read. you have to play with the colors and offset in scenarist to get them right I am guessing.
edit: played with offset but some are in sync and others are not it would be a major project to line up subtitles imported from a .srt file.
also I wonder if ps3 will play dolby-TD or DTS-hd on a AVCHD mastered with scenarist?
Hello Jamos, did you get an answer for this?
I just created an AVCHD (BD9) using the Scenarist method listed here and my subs came out with the exact same problem. They were almost transparent and out of sync.
Do you know of a way to rectify this?
EDIT: I just found this post...
export .srt subtitle from mkv using mkvextract
download subtitleworkshop 2.51 http://www.urusoft.net/download.php?lang=1&id=sw
run subtitleworkshop 2.51 open .srt file exported from mkv with 23.976 selected
change bottom left frame rate drop down to 24
save as srt (double click on the subrip icon)
open subtitleworkshop beta4
open srt saved from subtitleworkshop 2.51
choose file export to custom image format
choose video format tab use either 720 or 1080 and choose non drop frame 23.976
then change the text color in the font to something other than white (green works good)
then click export to create a bdn .xml file
import bdn file (.xml) from scenarist in the data tab
click on clip then go to clip editor PG timeline and right click
choose timeinfo and set the video offset equal to the start of the first subtitle (to get the time of the first subtitle use tool subtitle arranger menu item)
I am about to give it a try now. I wonder, is the Subtitle Workshop (v2.51) 23.976fps--->24fps step absolutely nesseccary? By changing the offset in Scenarist doesn't rectify this without the fps conversion?

Subtitle Workshop 4 can export 720p or 1080p subtitles. SUPread can only export 1080p subtitles at this time. From what I've read here, it might not be too long before that is changed though. Let's hope...
EDIT: Update from the post above this one ^...
The conversion in Subtitle Workshop (v2.51) from 23.976-->24fps for srt subs is needed for for Sonic Scenarist to correct the sync ssue.
XolocoTuxmaster, if I could suggest some refinement to your fantastic guide on the front page...
SRT:
1. Load srt file into Subtitle Workshop (v2.51). Set Input FPS to 23.976, and Output FPS tp 24fps. Save new srt file.
2. Load *.srt file by SubtitleWorkshop4 (version 4 support bdn file export)
3. Clicks file->export customize image subtitle
4. Select 8bit PNG, and select movie resolution and fps.
5. Change font colour to anything other than white (lighter colours like yellow, green or blue are recommended).
6. Export
And...
Creating the BD
You need at least Sonic.Scenarist.BDA.v4.20
8. Go to Stream tree tab
*9.1. Drag the video files onto stream,( this will create a playlist and a clip.)
*9.2. Drag the audio files onto the clip (be careful with the track order)
*9.3. Drag the subtitles files onto the clip
*9.4. Open up the "Tool" drop down menu up the top of the window. Press "Subtitle Arranger" and then "OK". Note the start time of the first subtitle.
*9.5. In the "Clip Editor" tab, right click on the subtitle (PG) and press "Time info...". Then adjust the video offset to the start time of the first subtitle.
10. Click on the Scenario editor tab
11. Select First Playback then right click on it and select Set movie object.
12. Do the Same for top menu.
13. Now drag the playlist onto both MO#1 this will create a nice tree structure.
*14. Now save your project and quit Scenarist. Go back to Windows Explorer and navigate into your Project folder and open the Project.xml file in Notepad. Go all the way to the bottom and find a setting called:
<CopyPermissionIndicator>3</CopyPermissionIndicator>
Change the 3 to a 0 (zero). This will prevent the disc from being flagged as encrypted. This is very important. If you do not perform this step your disc will NOT work.
PS:...
to bad i get a buffer underflow when i start to mux
i used het level4.1 hd-bluray-console profile
I had this same problem when using MKVextract GUI to demux. I found that if I ran the elementary h264 stream through h264info, with no alterations (all fields blank) and saved a new h264 file. This fixed the problem and it all worked fine! :)

Sure, thank you very much.
By the way, maybe the guide is getting all obsolete. TSmuxer added blu-ray output some weeks ago, and it's getting better and better, THEY EVEN RELEASED A LINUX VERSION!!!! :)
I'm very interested on it now, I have offered myself to port the GUI , I'm going to use it and see how good TSmuxer really is...and consider updating the guide

You are quite right! I was even thinking the exact same thing myself.
The only reason I was interested in the Sonic Scenarist method was to include subs in a 720p encode. It seems as though this shouldn't be far away with tsMuxeR though
I am looking forward to that very much! :)
EDIT: Thank you very much for including my recommendations! :thanks: I noticed you left out the reference to Subtitle Workshop (v2.51) in the first step in the srt section. I think it is important to differentiate, as it is v2.51 that can do this (23.976fps-->24fps) not v4.

no they will start off in sync but slowly go out of sync due to dropping frames. I have no issues using supread now.

No, AVCHD has its own specs, mainly stated by:
-Video codec: AVC
-Audio codec: Dolby Digital, PCM 1.5 Mbps
-More than one audio track: No
-Subtitles: No
Is the above still true?? taken from 1st post.

^ Yes, if you read what Xoloco was trying to say, it certainly is true. AVCHD is a separate format to Blu-ray and therefore has it's own profile boundaries and specifications. What we are talking about here is creating mini Blu-ray discs that the PS3 (or other stand alone Blu-ray players) identify as AVCHD but really contain material that push the boundaries above AVCHD into the Blu-ray format specifications.

Is anybody actually making BD-9 here?
Those are dual-layer DVDs - what about the layer break? I know that can be an issue when burning DVD9 disks. What will happen when I just burn the BD image on the DVD9? Do I have to put a layer break somewhere? Does it even make sense to talk about the layer break in this context?

works very fine on the ps3, so therefor i see no problem with the layer-break.

Just curious - did you split it in many stream files (and if yes, how many and how big), or was it everything just one big file?

well, i've used megui and an avs script to add borders in a mkv file, so that it matched the 720p standard.
after that i've demuxed the video and audio tracks and finally followed the description on page 1 for the scenarist program.
scenarist muxes the video and audio tracks back together in one m2ts file which is in the BDMV/STREAM folder.
that was about it....my thanks go to 3r1c for making this possible!

layer breaks are handled by the burning software you do not need to worry about them.

So what happens with the video playback of that big M2TS file then when your player is doing a layer change?
Does the playback stop for a second, just like with a DVD?
Does the burning software allows you to write a big M2TS file that is spanning the 2 layers of a DVD9 formatted in UDF 2.50?

When does that happen on a regular DVD? I've never noticed that happening with dual layer discs before. Unless your player does a poor job of buffering. I've seen the warnings on the discs "layer change may trigger slight pause" but it's never happened to me.

Yes, you can burn a single M2TS file to take up a full DVD-9 in UDF v2.50 file structure.

i've got a problem concerning scenarist (or rather not knowing where to find an adjustment).
the first bd-9 i've burned worked fine, but the second is totally out of sync between audio and video.
obviously i was just lucky that video and audio were in sync already, so i've got to figure out where to set the audio delay in scenarist, so resync video and audio again.
maybe i'm blind or haven't looked probably, but i can't find it.
does anybody know where to set audio delay?

May I back this question up again.
This would really be a cool thing to have multi-movies AVCHD (or BD5/9 if you will)
Does this necessarily require a menu ?
Could not it be a simple multi-chapter scheme ?
And what do Playlist do actually ? are they linked to the menu ?

My question may be a bit off-topic but this thread is so far the best one fitting my needs.
I am trying to put demo BR image available here (https://hdcookbook.dev.java.net/servlets/ProjectDocumentList?folderID=0) onto DVD-RW 5. The idea is to play with BD-J stuff available at that site as well and run it on PS3. Initially the disk was only accepted as DATA. After replacing the files with Nero ones it started to be accepted as AVCHD. However menu doesn't work, I cannot fire up BD-J stuff and only one of the videos plays.
I suspect that the changed index files are responsible. Can anyone suggest how to change (what's wrong according to PS3 with the default ones) or recalculate these so they work properly? Is AVCHD to blame? According to Wikipedia Blu-Ray Disco information (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc#HD_DVD.2FBlu-ray_Disc_hybrid_discs) it should be perfectly possible to use DVD media. According to another Wikipedia page on AVCHD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD) that is something else than BD5/9.

Hi all.
I've been following this thread, however I am experiencing issues when replacing the index and MovieObject bdmv files for PS3 compatability.
The title is authored in Scenarist, however when replacing the bdmv files with the ones supplied at the top of this thread, the movie plays fine on the PS3, but there is no Top Menu.
The same BDMV title emulated fine in PowerDVD, but there is obviously an issue regarding Top Menu navigation when replacing the bdmv files.
Can anyone shed any light please?
Thanks in advance.

Hi all,
After experiencing some issues with playing my Scenarist authored blu-ray content on a PS3 (burnt on a DVD), I've found a solution.
Clearly, replacing the index.bdmv and MovieObject.bdmv files will allow you to burn your output to a DVD-R for PS3 compatability.
However, replacing these with the files supplied on Page 1 of this thread although resulting in a playable disc, will essentially overwrite your authoring.
I wanted to be able to keep my authoring the same and still be able to play it on the PS3.
Using BDedit I was able to modify the supplied *.bdmv files and add the operations created by my own Scenarist project. After a few trial and error burns, I managed to get the DVD-R to behave as intended.
After that I compared the *.bdmv files in a hex editor, and found that by running the index.bdmv file through AVCHD Patcher and modifying a couple of flags in a hex editor that I was able to successfully burn a Scenarist built project to a DVD-R and retain all menu functionality and run the disc as expected.
This may not be very useful to those of you who just want to watch Bluray content on a DVD-R and a PS3 (as you could just replace the two bdmv files with the 2 supplied at the top of this thread or explore TSRemux), however if you want to author a disc with top-menus, pop-up menus, multiple vidoes and so on, then this method should work.
1. Mux project in Scenarist.
2. Run index.bdmv through AVCHD Patcher (http://wnojikoshya.hp.infoseek.co.jp/AVCHD-Patcher_1.01.rar)
3. Open both MovieObject.bdmv and (the now patched) index.bdmv in a hex editor.
In both MO and index look for INDX0200 and change it to INDX0100. Then in index.bdmv there will be two instances of TR 0 0 1 0 -- replace both these with NV 4 9 7 2.
4. You should now be able to burn the BDMV and CERTIFICATE folders to a DVD-R at UDF 2.50 and play on a PS3.
Cheers, I hope this was of some help to some of you.
Thom.

Indeed it was Thom! Thanks for the above... I authored my BD home movies with DVD Architect 5 from Sony and the resulting ISO when burned on a DVD5 didn't play on the PS3. Using the info in the above post and a reburn made the disc show up as AVCHD (DVD-R) on the PS3 and it played with menus and all.
One note though, in the Movieobject.bdmv file the letters were MOBJ0200 and not INDX0200. I simply changed it to MOBJ0100... Next step now is to find someone with a real BD player and see what it does with it.
So I justed wanted to say it works, and it seems to work with discs authored outside of Scenarist aswell (which is good as I think Scenarist would be overkill for my home projects :D)

Sorry for adding some silly questions quite late, but I just bought an AVCHD camcorder, and finding the right information on AVCHD vs. Blu-ray and especially x264 is quite difficult without reading the threads here every day. I want to get a valid "backup" for later BD authoring as I donīt have any BD player yet to test the results. I simply want to avoid problems on stand-alones which friends or myself might use in the following years resulting in a complete reencode of all the material I have (remuxing would be no problem).
AVCHD is a separate format to Blu-ray and therefore has it's own profile boundaries and specifications.
It looks to me that AVCHD is some kind of compatible subset to BD as it just allows e.g. lower data rates etc. Are there some informations in the AVCHD stream that are not BD-compliant so that a full reencoding would be necessary to be really BD-compliant? Or might it be possible that any incompatible values can be patched "BD-compliant" in the future?
Might an incompatibility be the reason why we donīt find any smart rendering of AVCHD files on commercial editing software as it has to be reencoded anyway or are they still simply not capable of implementing it?
What we are talking about here is creating mini Blu-ray discs that the PS3 (or other stand alone Blu-ray players) identify as AVCHD but really contain material that push the boundaries above AVCHD into the Blu-ray format specifications.
If the disc is recognized as AVCHD instead of BD, is this a flaw in the x264 profile or in the directory structure? Or is it no flaw at all? To get to the point: Is the stream (not the structure) created by x264 BD-compliant as far as we know or is it "just" said to be compatible as it works on the PS3?
Concerning MeGUI - I could use RipBox264 as well but I am missing the "interlace" check box there: ;)
- If I choose the SA-Blu-ray Profile for Reencoding of 1080i50, AVCHD, do I have to alter the keyframe interval from 24 to 25 or 50? Or is this just mandatory?
- How "reliable" is the "interlace" check box? Is interlace encoding implemented (some kind of) correctly now in x264 or is it still said to be "experimental"? Did you find any problems when reencoding AVCHD material with that flag enabled? Deinterlacing everything would definately be no valid solution for me...
- Anything else that would have to be changed in MeGUI having this PAL scenario?
Thanks in advance on any answer... :)
P.S.: Any idea why there is no line-break set automatically in this post? Quiet ugly to read...

These text identifiers are available in AVCHD structures, not in Blu-ray ones - that's why you can't find the string (in HEX+TEXT view of index.bdmv).
Making a full Blu-ray disc backup (after BD-RB) to play in PS3 (written on DVD disc) is a tricky thing and it works just for some consoles and for even less movies.
If you're trying to burn a DVD from a BD backup, which contains JAVA (BD-J) - just give up.
If you're in the NTSC region and have NTSC console/player - give up.
