If we use workshop 2.51 to change subtitle to 24p and then do offset in scenarist, the subtitle sync seems ok. But do you guys feel the subtitle in png file(1920x1080) is very small even used 72 font size for generation? Any solutions for generating a big size subtitle?

you still have to export with subtitleworkshop 4 after you have changed the timings in 2.51. in the export image options you can change the font to whatever type and size you want (just wish the white color would work). If you are referring to the limit of 72 in the drop down you can type in a larger size.

i have a problem :)

i have a avchd muxed by tsremux way
but it is a live hdtv recording from metallica and i want to do him with scenarist so that i can do every nr a chapter
but the resolution is 1280x720 fps=29,970 and this combination scenarist wont take as input

now i encoded him with megui to 1280x720 and a fps of 23.976 and scenarist is doing ok but the audio is not synch

what do i forget to get this working

select .m2ts , click lock size and select size (4480 for Single layer DVD or 8150 for dual layer) go to properties and select FHD 1920x... or HD 1280x... After encoding use TSRemux to get BluRay structure.

I'll use Scenarist because of the subtitles. I've tested ripbot but have one problem, in my XP PC it's slow as death, Celeron 2.8:mad:, and in my other PC, on Vista, i cant get ripboot to work, when i press star it says ends right away and creates no file.

sounds about right marco using 8000 bitrate. ripbot does just what megui does (ie they both encode using x264) plus more i think? it just makes things easier. I like megui better for now just becuase i like to fiddle with the settings. I am not sure how ripbot handles mkvs with cropped video ie does it add the borders to make the video complient?

After you add your video and audio under the data tab, there is a section in the lower left corner that says properties.

I seem to always have to change the audio frame rate to 23.976 in this section before dragging them over to the stream tab.

dunno if that helps.

And you can use 3 b-frames with pymamid b-frames with 3 p-ref and 2 b-ref or

3 b-frames without pyramid bframes with 4 p-ref and 3 b-ref.
Max GOP is 1.000 sec.
W(eighted)-pred work too.
Max buffer is 30 000 Kbits.

Thanks...

Just curious where you found your info?

So the Max GOP should be equal to your frame rate.

Isn't the max buffer tied to the level your using?

yes it will make life easier. but our company bought our copy, so I like using it and never had issues with it. I always use xolos profiles in megui before hand though.
Maybe some of these folks are using hacked copies that probably have bugs in them.

CopyPermissionIndicator to 0 is only for PS3, normally you can also let the AACS folder.

if your player is capable of AVCHD you must copy the nero BDMV files that Xolos provided into the stream directory before you burn it .

I hate to sound like an uber noob, but is there anyway someone can put this guide together along with pictures so it might be less confusing for those us new to this process? I've been chomping at the bit to be able to put mkv files in a feasible format that the PS3 will like and play without having to cut it up into multiple parts and transfer to the hdd.

I guess the most confusing part is megui and importing the bluray profiles. I've tried and nothing shows up in the import box.

Copy the profiles from the zip file to the 'C:\Program Files\megui\profiles\Video' folder.

And then I tried many times for different font size, seems the program can't be generate the font size more then 72. Did you guys can do that? Or any else software for generating png files with or without bnd.xml files?

Using this method you will get a 100% standard Blu-ray content, but bruning that content on a DVD (BD-5) or double layer DVD (BD-9) is not standard at all. Nevertheless, several BD players play them some of them considering them as an AVCHD (PS3)...but then plays as a normal BD, so all codecs and subtitles are supported

Creating the BD
You need at least Sonic.Scenarist.BDA.v4.20
That's all, now you have 100% standard BD content, for burning:
*On a Blu-ray:
--Just BDMV folder on it

*Confirm no PS3 players compatibility

I tryed to burn BDMV folder from Scenarist muxing result (and even with AACS and CERTIFICATE folder) on BD-RE, but PS3 didn't play it, although recognizes BDMV on BD-RE. PS3 displays "this is an invalid disk" message. But when I then use TsRemux with "blu-ray ouput format" onto resulting .M2TS file from Scenarist and burn result, then PS3 plays ok. But what is the way to get more then one clip?

I have a question about this step:

14. Now save your project and quit Scenarist. Go back to Windows Explorer and navigate into your Project folder and open the Project.xml file in Notepad. Go all the way to the bottom and find a setting called:

<CopyPermissionIndicator>3</CopyPermissionIndicator>

I didn't change this in all the BD5s I burned, however when I burn the structure I always leave out the AACS folder. If I burn it along with the other two the disc won't play, but if I leave that one out, it will without problems. I have a Sony BDP-S300. Are there any other players that will not play my discs because I didn't change that?

you do not need the aacs folder for playing BDs or DVDs and thus you do not need to worry about changing the copypermission. just leave out the folder on burn. only need the BDMV and the Certificate folders to make it BD complient.

do you mayby know some information on how to make a simple menu

let say a start menu for 3 movies on a disc so that i can choice what movie i want to see this is for a blu ray disc

I don't know but it's explained at Scenarist HDMV manual.

Maybe this guide by Jokin helps you

is it possible to make bd5 or bd9 with menu on a ps3 ?
You can make menus for AVCHD with Nero Vision. For official BD-5/BD-9 you can make Blu-ray menus(pop-up...java...)using Scenarist, but don't know if these ones will work at PS3, because of the AVCHD stuff

Hello everybody at doom9. This is my first post on these forums.

Previously I have spent a lot of time on www.afterdawn.com helping many people to create PS3 compatible HD movie files with the applications I found on this wonderful site. I've posted many links to download the software you guys create. I thought it's about time I joined up here at doom9 and started talking to the Authors of all this great software.

I just read through this entire thread and I am not sure if I missed it, but I have one question...

Is there a proven method to create PS3 compatible AVCHD/BD5/BD9 discs with working switchable subtitles?

I read here on many occasions that these discs are playing on the PS3 without a problem and I have already previously achieved this a number of times. However, at this point in time I have had no luck getting subtitles to work on the PS3 with HD video (720p/1080p). I can see verification that these play on PowerDVD (v7.2) but I can't seem to find a clear statement that these subs work on the PS3. Please excuse me if I missed this.

PS: A big, BIG thank you to all the Authors of all this incredible software. :)

It's a 2.35:1 aspect ratio video so I believe that I needed to add borders, right?

It was a rhetorical question. :)

Yes, I did take a look the guide. Thank you for posting that link. :thanks:
I am already quite familiar with all those steps and applications. Previously I had been happy with leaving my HD videos in a m2ts container for my PS3. This way I didn't have any concern if they were cropped or not (and not having chapters didn't bother me at all). However, I just recently discovered a couple of applications here at doom9 allowing subtitles to be included in an AVCHD (BD-5/BD-9) disc.

Now, that gives me the motivation to take it one step further and start authoring those mini BD discs. So, obviously if I have a cropped source I will need to fill up the remainder of the vertical resolution with black borders.

Thank you for the help guys. Keep up the great work!

One question... What would be the advantage of using this method as opposed to Roman's tsMuxeR?

My goal is to create a 720p (1280 x 720) AVCHD (BD-9) disc, with 2 audio tracks (DTS and ac3) and a subtitle track to play on the PS3.

Couldn't I just output Blu-ray in tsMuxeR and burn the BDMV and CERTIFICATE (<--- do I leave out this if created by tsMuxeR too?) folders as UDF 2.5 in Nero?

I tried once and it played but it seemed to "stick" a lot. Chapters and seeking didn't seem to work. I am using high quality media (Verbatim) with slow burn speeds (4x).

Is there something that I am missing? Do I need to use the Nero BDMV files with tsMuxeR too?

Or is this method here more reliable?

Thank you very much jamos but I am more referring to the Blu-ray output. I always get the latest version of any software. Whenever I export m2ts files, they play perfect and seek just fine.

I had one attempt at making an AVCHD (Blu-ray on DVD9 for PS3) for the purpose of including subtitles. I am about to have another crack at it.

My question is, which method produces better (more reliable) results? The method on this thread, or using tsMuxeR to output Blu-ray folder structure?

Also, if I do go with tsMuxer do I leave out the "CERTIFICATE" folder for PS3 compatibility and only burn the "BDMV" folder?

Also, if I use tsMuxeR, should I still replace the BDMV (index.bdmv and Movieobject.bdmv) files with the Nero ones listed here?

I offer my gratitude to anyone that could offer some clarification here. :thanks:

PS: The only reason I am re-encoding is to include borders for the mini BD (DVD9) compatibility so I can include switchable subtitles. In the past if I had a cropped video, I just muxed into a m2ts container as cropping is not an issue here.
