problem:
I'm not able to strip DRM (surprise ;-))

info & setup:
I run WinXP x64 (i.e. 2003 based) with Windows Media Player 11, drmdbg reports v11.0.6000.7000.
I tried both drmdbg v2008-01-01 and v2008-01-02 with the same results.
I downloaded DRM Removal Kit (Simplified) (i.e. drmdbg & FreeMe2) and replaced the drmdbg with v2008-01-02. I edited the ini accordingly:
[IndivBoxKey]
path=C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM\Cache\Indiv01.key
[drmv2clt]
path=C:\WIN_OS\SysWOW64\drmv2clt.dll
I actually searched for "drmv2clt.dll" and found a second instance:
C:\WIN_OS\system32\dllcache.dll
I tried this file too, but drmdbg doesn't use this one properly and automatically reverts back to the old ini setting (yes, I made sure I actually saved the ini).

these are my DRM folders, I already deleted them and redownloaded my licenses once:
http://img397.imageshack.us/img397/831/drmfolderof3.png
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/7448/drmcachefolderaf5.png

problem description:
- whenever I start drmdbg I get the dreaded "WriteProcessMemory_error" , WMP opens but doesn't play anything. all fields in the GUI stay blank.
- whenever I hit "Multi Scan", DRM info and the file path are displayed, WMP starts but gives the following error:
"Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help."

can anybody help me to solve this?

Well thanks for the guide, but it still doesn't work in all cases.

We're dependant on drmdbg, and if that doesn't work (and it doesnt work well in vista), you're screwed.

You are my HERO!!! I've never been able to get drmdbg to work, ever until I followed your tutorial. It didn't work at first, but you said if it didn't work to put the song in the folder with drmdbg, and that did the trick!

I've been d/l'ing songs on an XP machine that i pretty much dedicated to downloading and undrm'ing music using FairUse4WM, but this is so much better than having to transfer files between machines. THANK YOU

So I having a bit of an issue removing DRM from Rhapsody tracks. Below is the versions of everything that I have.

XP Pro SP2
Rhapsody 4.0
WM 11.0.5721.5230
IBX 11.0.6000.6324
drmdbg 12.25.2007 and 1.1.2008

When I go through the process of running drmdbg, it finds the IBX key and then launches WM. I click on the MultiScan button the following errors happen.

ReadProcessMemory_error
WriteProcessMemory_error

I also do not get the expected drm2.key file. I'm guessing that it has to do with the above errors.

My question to everyone.

1) Is there anyway I can force IBX to upgrade to 11.0.6000.7000?

2) Is there a version of drmdbg that is compatible with 11.0.6000.6324?

3) Am I SOL since I'm using Rhaposdy?

4) What else am I missing?

I really appreciate it.

I've never used Rhapsody before, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that you can either d/l music in WMA or RA file formats, and that the default is RA unless you change your settings. This may not be much help, but make sure you are d/l'ing the tracks in WMA format.

I'm currently downloading them as WMA. Just trying to figure out why the errors are happening and why the key is not being created.

Thanks.

It looks like MS has patched DRM up again without changing the IBX version. My stupid ass let Windows Update install all the Updates. Luckily i still have a XP Virtual Machine i created just for DRMDBG that works.

I recommend to anyone who is still able to use DRMDBG be carefull about recent Windows Updates until a new version of DRMDBG is up.

get yourself a copy of WMP 11 Beta2.

22nd April 2008, 19:13
I would love to. But always when I try to install WMP 11 Beta 2 Vista says I do have a newer Version.

So how can you install WMP 11 Beta 2 if you've already upgraded your WMP?

farmdwg

Get a VM and install XP. Vista won't allow you to install the old version.

How can I get rid of my WMP11 or downgrade it?

You dont need to downgrade anything. Just be sure you dont install Vista SP1 and you are eligible to follow my tutorial:

i have a similar issue as someone posted above,

WMP:11.0.6000.6344
IBX 11.0.6000.6324
drmdbg 1.1.2008

I been trying to get the IBX 11.0.6000.7000 but it wont update. I did try to individualize from MS site. I have tried Fairuse4WM and that is a no go, as well as mirakagi. When i try to extract the keys both error out, fairuse4WM says 11.0.6000.6324 not supported.

Am i screwed? or is there a way to get the 11.0.6000.7000 again? that worked for me before but have not used this for a while so dunno whats up with it now.

Currently it appears you are screwed.

They released IBX 6000.6324, then 6000.7000 and then went back to 6000.6324 but Fairuse4VM/mirakagi won't work with the "new" 6324, only the old one.

And noone seems to have found a way to either a) go back to 6000.7000 OR b) on a fresh install make it go to 6000.7000 and not continue to 6000.6324.

Get yourself a copy of WMP 10 or WMP 11 beta2 and you're all set. The resulting IBX will be v11.0.5497.6285.

Make sure you remove the DRM folder located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users before installing either version. Then head over to this (http://services.wmdrm.windowsmedia.com/indivSite) page to reindividualize your machine.

stesmi

Might work for others but won't for me since the media will pop up the "need to upgrade" page and I have to upgrade to wmp11 + patches. (This is regardless when I install the license itself).

I just did it in a virtual machine with XP SP3 and had no problems whatsoever. http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/5994/nenaujb3.gif

Edit: Just came to my mind, did you reindividualize your system using the link my above post before playing any DRM-protected files? It won't ask you to upgrade your player or install any updates if you do it through the webpage.

stesmi
8th May 2008, 20:42
For me that's not the issue, it's the issue of the media from this specific place not playing on an older player than WMP11+patches. It won't even play on stock WMP11, it will pop up the update page and won't go forward.

I don't know if that's the same page I've used previously to reindividualize my IBX. I'd have to check. I got the link from these forums though.

karltpb

Well I've never had any such file which required me to upgrade my player, so I don't really have a clue. :(

Yes, what you said will work for removing DRM. Using a Microsoft Virtual PC is a good tool when you accidently updated your Vista to SP1 or your XP to SP3. Doing so (updating to SP1 / SP3) will change your IBX version, thus disabling you from removing the DRM effectively...

What operating system did you use on your virtual machine?

I never installed any service packs after installing windows. I used the SP3 integrated image from MSDN to setup the virtual machine. I'm not sure what would be the consequences of installing SP3 after installing windows. All I know is I had WMP 9 after a clean install of XP.

You are right. The "latest" IBX is 11.6000.6324. This is a FIX enforced by music sites. I know because I was doing fine until Yahoo FORCED me...yes, it will not let you play anything...to upgrade. Upgrading "updated" to the new IBX. The ironic part is that they are purposely using .6324 since all drm fix sites say .6324 and below works. They are trying to fool people that their IBX version is .6324. The Microsoft INDIV site will NOT upgrade to .7000 since that DOES NOT EXIST ANYMORE. All music sites will follow these guidelines...so we have to wait till the next fix.

Even if you roll back to WMP 10 some music sites WILL NOT RUN unless WMP 11 is on your compu...so that sucks too!!!

Hey all! It's me again. I need help from the masters.

After about three months of functioning DRMDBG, and FreeMe2 (With someone's freemehelper thingie, the one where you use the file's properties to get DRMDBG to spit out the sid)

My DRMDBG quit on me. I can get the SID's out of DRMDBG, but when I go to run the file throuugh Freeme2, it only recreates 60% of the file. Why is this??

Is any one else having the same problem?

Thanks

It sounds as if the file is corrupt. Re-download it and try again... If it still doesn't work then based on the "thingies" info you gave I will need more info to help you out...

1 what version of ibx you have (I assume 6000.7000)
2 what version of windows are you running (XP or Vista)
3 what version of media player are you using (MP10 MP11)
4 what version of drmbg are you using (The date at the top of the app)
5 what version of freeme2 are you using (if the latest then never mind)

do any of you happen to know if this "new" 11.6000.6324 IBX is also going to WMP10? i have WMP10 still and have that IBX version after doing a a clean install yesterday because HD died. I went to Indiv. site and updated that and tried using Mirakagi / Fairuse4wm and its not working.

Mirakagi outputs
Mirakagi starts, code version 0.9
Found 0 keys in keyring.
-----------------
Processing "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM\cache\Indiv01.key"
Version: 11.0.6000.6324 ...
XML - Cert: 84 bytes, Key Storage: 1392 bytes.
DLL 1000/ef180 @ ac01000 && f1000/234a0 @ acf1000
Cannot locate encrypted code chunks.
It is finished.

and FairUse4WM outputs
Extraction in progress on "Indiv01.key" 11.0.6000.6324 -- Please wait.
Failed - Unable to locate encrypted code table.

Is there any way of getting drmdbg to work, or anything that works from a clean install?

WMP10 version shows 10.00.00.4040
Under Win XP pro
11.6000.6324 IBX

Any way to get 11.0.6000.7000 one?

Get yourself a virtual machine image of XP and use the default wmp9 or wmp10, individualize and never ever update the virtual machine's version of wmp.

Get yourself a virtual machine image of XP and use the default wmp9 or wmp10, individualize and never ever update the virtual machine's version of wmp.

Setting up a virtual machine just to undrm seems a bit of a chore considering the undrm software WAS working without having to do that, at least that is what all the web pages that explain how to install mirakagi and fairuse4wm 1.4 fix 2 on Vista say.

So can anyone using Yahoo Music confirm for sure, if you roll back WMP to an older version, say 10 beta 2 on Vista, Yahoo Music will still force the IBX update to the 6324 version that breaks all the undrm software. Or will you be okay as long as you avoid and WMP upgrade or any patch that updates the IBX? I'm trying to install a Vista machine that doesn't have any existing drm media on it so deleteing the drm directory and re-individualizing is no big deal. I just don't want to waste any more time on this.

But it sounds like to me even if you revert to WMP 10, when you individualize, the MS site pushes that new 6324 IBX right? Do you have to go all the way back to WMP 9 to avoide the IBX update? And if so, does it not run on Vista I assume?

I have an xp sp2 disk ill try the vmware thing. Any provider still working with that and wmp9? that has a decent collection of videos and music? and when i individualize wmp9 what ibx will i get and what should i use drmdbg or Fairuse4wm with mirakagi?

btw, for those interested, I just installed server 2003 in a vm, which comes with wmp10. Installed yahoo music (involved hacking the msi with orca to let it install to ignore the version of server), and fairuse4wm works fine with it.

However, I'm trying to get some content that only will authenticate in vista to get the DRM removed, and I'm having trouble.

I can install WMP9/10/11b2, but that doesn't seem to help me.

If I don't individualize, I can play the content, but fairuse4wm doesn't see any ibx files.

I I do individualize, I get the "new" 6324 ibx.

any ideas?

I know of a way to get back to 6000.7000, but the problem is that a lot of content providers (and their software) force the user to update or they cannot download or view/play files. The rollback would be successful but most software has already been updated to check IBX version from the start.

If you're still interested in experimenting, let me know....

Well my PC crashed and I had to reload my software. I'm trying to rebuild my music library and was using Yahoo Music and upgraded to Rhapsody since they are discontinuing Yahoo music. But when installing Rhapsody, it wants to install Windows Media 11 Runtime. I figure I'm screwed as far as using fairus4wm anymore. Anyway to install an old copy of Rhapsody that will work fine with WMP 10 that I can avoid being forced to upgrade so fairuse4wm will still work or do I need to switch music subscription services?
