Can firmware 2.01 still play 5.1 m2ts from XMB?

Yes.

Well, I tried a vob file re-muxed from an mkv (avc+ac3). The ac3 still plays in 5.1, and there still is the same problem with seeking (when seeking the audio/video get out of sync, as it did before).

I do not have sync problems with seeking when reencoding (and not just remux). I reencoded a MKV file using MainConcept Reference 1.0 encoder to a H264 elementary stream (vbv buffer size in rate control must be set lower though - in my case set to 750000) using Main profile Level 4.1.

The AC3 audio track, which was demuxed from the MKV file, was then used in Adobe Encore CS3 to author a BluRay structure.
(the rate control/vbv buffer change when encoding seems to be necessary, otherwise the BluRay authoring step produces some strange error code ).

The resulting .m2ts file from the BluRay structure was then run through TSRemux 0.18 (with BluRay as output).

The resulting .m2ts file was then renamed to .mpg, and plays fine directly from the XMB without sync problems after seeking.

it also streams well (untranscoded) from my TVersity media server. And fastforward/seeking is possible when streaming untranscoded and sync is ok all the way through.

I'm trying to find a way to recode videos (dvd (= mpeg2 + subtitles + chapters, multiple ac3/dts audio) ) to mp4 (h264) using a vob, avi, mp4, m2ts or whatever container needed to preserve all of the mentioned things - and all this playable on a playstation 3 ...
I will take my time to write a guide IF I find a way. But right now I'm still out of luck...

If its the only way I may be even considering using xvid/divx (mp4-asp) if this serves my needs...

So once again: My goal is to recode vobs
- with working chapters
- with working subtitles (not rendered into the movie)
- with multpiple AC3 or DTS Audio Streams
- with h264 encoded video
And play all that on a playstation 3 ...

The needed tools should be avaible for free or should stay beyond the 100$ price limit...

Started an own thread for that - but I clearly need help...
