Hi, I'm having trouble exporting clips from DVDs with subtitles into mpeg format. This is to project onto a movie screen (I teach a film class). I need the clips in a one-file format rather than as a dvd clip with multiple .ifos, etc. I have tried using DVD Shrink with all variations of selecting streams, but I couldn't play the clip .vob by itself with the subtitles--it played with the default audio track only. I can get the subtitles if I start with the .ifo, but I don't want to have to use that because I need to deal with dozens of clips. I have tried Handbrake, but it wouldn't allow me to select a clip (only a chapter) and the full-screen quality was poor.
* I want to export less than a chapter (1 min or so)
* I want the resolution and quality to be roughly the same as DVD
* I don't care about file size.
* If it requires more than two steps, and/or requires time-consuming re-encoding, I would like to do some of the steps as a batch job (I need to make dozens of clips)
* I want to use freeware, but if you are sure that a commercial program will work, I'd be willing to pay for one that was $40 or less
