subtitles out of sync, dont know how to fix

my subs are about 14 seconds off. now the problem is how can i fix. my file is an mkv. it is x264 with aac sound. vlc says avc1 with mp4a and spu subs. what is the easiest way to get the subs resynced.

Is it x264 or VC1, these are two totaly different codecs, and how did you mux the mkv?

i used automkv to encode the video with the x264 encoder and let it do the subs. i demuxed the ac3 reencoded it and then muxed it back in.

Oops, I totaly misread your post. Anyway, I think mkvtoolnix (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=120648)can add a delay to it.

MKV Toolnix can ad a general delay, but i was wondering if there are any programs like subtitle workshop for .mkv containers.

I like to sync at different points to stretch & shorten the subtitle. After a long time searching online i can find anything that matches with what i'm looking for...

The container has nothing to do with it. What kind of subtitles do you have?

the subtitles are in .srt format. But the movie in .mkv. With mkvtoolnix i can merge them toghetter, but i cant sync them on different points...
