Did a little research. Acording to this post AC3 in an MP4 container is impossible. ffmpeg does it, but nothing played it (VLC, powerDvd, WMP)

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=881538#post881538

I didn't manage to get AVC/multichannel AAC working on the PS3 with the latest EAC3 ffmpeg build using the following:

ffmpeg-i "C:\King Kong.eac3" -r 24000/1001 -f vc1 -i "C:\King Kong.vc1" -b 10000k -vcodec libx264 -level 41 -acodec libfaac -ab 640k -ac 6 test.mp4

It had some audio crackle though.

What about 5.1 Nero Digital Audio? Either that or I am going to seek a means of muxig the MP4 with DTS audio. What do you think?

I'm fairly certain Nero Digital Audio is just AAC. So that should work.

I found out the audio crackle was due to the version of ffmpeg I was using. I converted the eac3 to ac3 with eac3to and everything worked. The only issue there is that eac3to doesn't convert to AAC directly (that I know of).

I have a better ffmpeg AVC profile that I'm working on. It's kind of slow (about 1/6 real time), but it looks really looks sharp around 10mbps.

im just loading the video evo up into nero upgraded to 8.2.x.x:) i had a few teething problems due to my own stupidity:devil: !!! like not rebooting after installations ... of course this is a must especially after installing sonic 4.3 , then set it up after...LOL NOT BEFORE REBOOTING:confused: the same for nero too:stupid:

the video.evo has been loading up for 10mins and it is 25% done... im surfing the net and also doing a few screenshots of stuff.....

on the encode do you want me to max out or just do the quick encode??

Entirely up to you my friend. Bare that you will only be able to do a 1920x1080P minium with CUSTOM settings. Where is if you clcick AVC as your template and Home Cinema it will put it to 1280x720 and allow for Nero 5.1 audio. Do which ever one you fancy but do bare in mind that a 2 - Pass VBR is required to really do the encode any justic. 1 - Pass will show us it working but it will be shit quality basically.

I think 29mbps is a little excessive, especially with 2 pass. But to each their own.

I think the 20:1 makes my 6:1 look fairly reasonable. :)

I've very curious to see if the .mp4/AC3 works on a PS3.

I can see where you are comin from but I always opt for as close to the original source as possible. When I first discoeveerd HD to WMV HD I used to wait anything up to 70 hours for some films. You could get away with 15'000Kbs for 1080P but that is minimum for me. 10'000Kbs minimum for 720P. I mean even though I am no longer really into this as I now have both HD and Blu'Ray setup I still want to help to take it to its best it can be. Ultimately I want to help make this as easy as possible. But even if the MP4/AC-3 fails then all we have to do is click on AVC template and HOME CINEMA instead to give us a 720P equivalant with Nero 5.1 surround sound. Eventually we will conquer this. I mean I remember there being like 13 to 14 programs to do this. To even bring it down to 6 or 7 (cannot remember how many I used) is a vast improvement (especially for those who do not wish to mess around with graphs, bat files and what not)

Do apologise for going off on one ( no idea where that came from lol)

Yeah but unlike some people I make my shit and knowledge available to everyone. I hated it when I first come on here and people that blaintly knew a Hell of alot more then me refused to help and ignored me. I mean everyone starts off knowing nothing at the beginning....which is why even now I want to perfect this even though I no longer have no need to.

Me too, but I don't see HD DVD making a comeback after the Warner blow. I would recommend picking up one of those cheap HD-DVD players as an upconverting DVD player if you don't have one. It does an awesome job.

guys a lot of money changed hands with sony and warner ... lets just say the changes for the two parties who now back blu-ray were a little rushed . things are not always as they seem at first glance HD DVD may have had a couple of blows recently but this isnt the end , not just yet anyway.

sephiroth as for my setup , i have a few toys and will definatly see any errors in the picture output if there is some there....LOL

i have the pc hooked up to the lcd tv so i can stream movies directly if needs be through a 1080p capable cable also to a 1080i HD projector ..... and i do have a surround sound system too so i think we should be covered that side:D

So I ran into a little snag with the first page method. I'm running Vista x64 so I knew there would be some complications.

To initially test everything so I would know my problems did not lie with my configurations, I created a Virtual PC disk with XP on it and set every tool up inside it. I had no trouble creating an MKV using 9792 as the bitrate (9792 + audio = 10mbit) with the trim(0, 3000) added to the avs file.

I figured that with my success, I needed to try it natively since VPC was adding major slowdown even with hardware virtualization and 2GB of ram allocated.

Long story short, it encodes MUCH faster now, but suffers grey flickering throughout my test files. I'm testing with Poseidon, my rebuilt .EVO with the 640kbit e-ac3 audio track and the video track plays fine in PDVD, and my graph and avs file are identical to his examples and I tried both x264 parameter variants. Grey flickering in both. I was also able to playback the file made in VPC in Vista, so it's not a decoding issue. I've updated to newer ffdshow tryouts, and gotten a more recent build of x264, and still nothing.

Can anyone make any suggestions?
Thanks!

Also, if it is at all helpful to someone, I have the x264 2 pass log for a 300 frame version of the file (went shorter on frame duration while trying to eliminate flicker).

I may have to disagree with you there. Yes more Blu-Rays are being purchased over HD DVD (the current ratio is 3-1 to Blu-Ray I believe) but yet with regards to standalone players HD DVD is winning as it is selling alot more. Also you have to take into account that Blu-Rayy backs alot of its sales via PS3 owners...not everyone owns a PS3 and look at it from their prespective?....£300 for BluRay drive or £150 for HD DVD drive??...its not hard to see where they are going to go with it. Alot of consumers are also confused with this new mumble jumble and new flashly names but at least HD have kept DVD in their new format....I think this fight between Sony and Toshiba is far from over.

Im having some trouble with FFMPEG using the guide on the first page.

It spits out a lot of "[E-AC3 @ 00918460]transient pre-noise processing NOT IMPLEMENTED" errors when I feed it with an eac3 stream.

The final AC3 file has a lot of static in it, so something goes wrong.

Commandline used:
ffmpeg -i %1 -vn -acodec ac3 -ab 448k %1.ac3

Later binaries might fix it, but I haven't found any, nor do I have the insight to compile one myself.

Set the PRIOTY from NORMAL to HIGH and it should shave off some more encode time. But the time you have left is what it is going to take to finish it. It does the 2-Pass in one go hence the reason it takes so much longer.

Possibly. But are you using a x64 platform of GraphEdit? What graph based program are you using if its not GraphEdit? What is the file extension of the files you are using (video/audio)

What guide are you using aswell?

The guide on the first page of this thread. I don't believe I am using a 64bit platform of GraphEdit. I've used evodemux to get an EVO of the video and a DD+ track in it. Used ffmpeg to convert that DD+ track to ac3, used graph edit to take the evo, split it with the haali media splitter, pass it to wmvideo decoder dmo, specified a directshowsource in an avs file with the proper frame rate, reference to the grf, frame count and audio false parameters), and passed all that to x264.

That said, I'm now attempting it with Nero 8. I have the HD plugin now and am playing around with Vision/Recode and would love to do h.264+ac3 in an MP4 container, so if that's the guide you're working on, I'd love to see it.

Edit: Got x64 GraphEdit and the Haali Media Splitter is not an x64 component. Is there a x64 version of that? :D That of course breaks AviSynth so I tried to find x64 of that and did but they x264 wouldn't accept avs files and really... I give up there. Waiting for Nero Vision to analyze my EVO.

I am not too sure. The method I have worked up is AVC video with Dolby Digital AC3 5.1 audio in an MP4 container. My guide is now finished up and im just doing one last test to make sure it works on the 360/PS3/PC and then I will make the guide available to everyone. I just do not want to release something that does not work as intended and waste everyones time. But with my guide there is no need for graphs and this and that...the programs required are ANYDVD HD, EVODemux, Sonic CinePlayer 4.3, EAC3TO GUI, Nero 8 Ultra Edition, Nero HD DVD Blu Rayy Plugin..... that is all that will be needed so no more messing around with avs files, bat files and graphs.

80% on Vision analyzing my video only EVO. Got the TrueHD track converted to 640kbit AC3 using eac3to. Will your procedure work with Sonic 4.2? >.<

Edit: Dropped the ac3 track in with the video only EVO in Vision, selected Nero Digital AVC, 1080, 16:9, 12Mbit, 23.98fps, 5.1, 2 pass. It seems to show a 1-pass setting no matter my selection of 2 pass. Is that normal?

Despite my settings, this is what Vision looks like while encoding... Will I be unable to get what I want unless I stick with a minimum 15000kbit HDDVD compatible AVC setting in Vision?

http://www.dotstrosity.net/doom9/poseidonVision.jpg

Edit: Answered my own question. Vision ignores all my custom settings everytime and places the video in a 4:3 box. Going with the standard AVC HDDVD compliant 15000kbit method.

For your audio, what did you do/use? I took the TrueHD track, passed it through eac3to and made a 640kbit AC3 file, and then dumped that into Vision.

Thanks!
