This may have aready been covered, but is there a way that I can keep te 6 channel audio during the enoding process? I'm using Automen to re-encode some Blu-ray and HDDVD files I have, and always the finished movie only has two audio channels, even though the original source has 6.
Could someone please help?

I attempted to change a VFR video to CFR.
The original was 704x528; the result was 656x438.
The video was Divx50.
I don't understand why it was resized.
I'm using all of the latest programs cited in your first post.
buzzqw

automen will autoresize to correct proportion, regardless of no resize requested
for a pure NON resize, set ORIGINAL in Video Resize, then in advanced settings, set all crop values to 0, and write in height the correct height

My fault.
I didn't realize that the left slider determined size.
This app does fix the VFR problem.
Much thanks.

Been using this program for a long time and now i have a problem.
When using the mp4 option, everything goes exactly as it should. However, when the result file is created, it just dissappears. Gone.
I have no idea why this is happening, and it doesnt happen with any other encodes by the program, just the mp4's. Any ideas ppl?
Im using Vista btw, which may be the prob i guess ;)

I suppose that you haven't seen that you can set different folder (look for program path) in AutoMEN for where each part like MENcoder, MPlayer, MP4box and destination folder among some other folder path that might be needed? Make sure that all those are set where you have each of those executives and that your destination folder is set to show extension for files, so you can be sure that you work with the correct file. (Windows XP have the option to hide extension.)
When you make use of AutoMEN as GUI, it actually first create a batch file (look for a file with the extension .bat in the same folder as you have set to create your intermediate files which are given name ending with "automen" - all batch file can be open with notepad.exe -standard windows text editor- don't double click it as that will run the batch file, only mark and use right click on mouse to bring up option/commands for how to open this file, pick "edit" in the list). When you have opened your batch file you will see each step in the processing of your file. It might be that the last step which involve mp4box.exe (=>MP4 muxer; to create an MP4 container which is then filled with audio and video from those step earlier) is corrupt in some way.
YAMB (http://yamb.unite-video.com/documentation.html) which is a GUI for MP4box.exe can also be used as long as AutoMEN let MENcoder create an AVI with desired encoder from MENcoder (can be x264 encoder options (command start with -x264encopts) or xvid (command start with -xvidencopts) for video in MP4 and FAAC (command -faacopts) to create AAC audio, then make use of MPlayer to demux both audio and video stream from AVI container. With YAMB it is a rather easy process to use AVI container (no need to remux audio and video as individual streams; raw) and the documents for YAMB explains it rather good. You can also find link to GPAC project which should give you a better understanding for how to set commands in MP4box.exe.
Commands and setting for MPlayer and MENcoder (http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/man/en/mplayer.1.html). This link help you to understand what is going on in your batch file. To save some time, read up on how you can use -nosound or -copy during transcoding.
If nothing of all that I wrote above will be of any help, then you must post your batch file here and explain your steps more accurate as it is impossible to think of what could make your file disappear.
You should also be able to see how the process are running from a command window in the background (this might depend on how you have set command window to operate in general), so you can see what is happening from you start your batch file until the last step where you have your MP4 file.
Found out that YAMB author haven't added how to use mp4box.exe on his site, so here (http://gpac.sourceforge.net/doc_mp4box.php) you have the link to GPAC which give a more complete set of setting for mp4box.

hi all!
here the new automen 5.0
big changes!
first of all i added preset.txt file to change preset...
anyone can update and change this file for updating encoding with automen
this will allow power users (and export that want to share knowledge) to greatly add new preset and encoding, allow adding new rows
next update will be automen 5.1, for linux!

Hi folks,
I always have a such a difficult time finding a download for
mencoder.exe / mplayer.exe / mp4box.exe
When I go to the website that is MPlayer home page or the OSS-NetFarm ... I never know which download I need ... confusing as heck.
Is there a URL that points in a "dummy-proof" way to a MEncoder.exe and MPlayer and so forth!
Thanks,
G!:)

Hi,
I think the UI implementation you have for AutoMen is BRILLIANT!
I would like to review it in my software review site:
www.freewaregenius.com (6000 visitors+ per day).
However, for some reason in my conversions the colors are completely off. (I tried a couple of Xvid settings including 2-pass Slow).
Also, how do I choose an MP4 container? I am assuming there is a way?
Thanks!
buzzqw

@kurdi
Hi kurdi , thanks for your kind words!
However, for some reason in my conversions the colors are completely off. (I tried a couple of Xvid settings including 2-pass Slow)
what player are you using ? i got not problem (and this is the first time i read of this problem) on my conversion..
may i suggest to update your ffdshow/media player classic or use the excellent SMPlayer
automen is for simplicity and automation.. so .. container is bound to codec.. xvid=avi, x264=mp4
no possible (actually) to change it

28th October 2008, 08:09
buzzqw,
I am using The KMplayer
I do not think it is a player issue, as I noticed that the colors on the converted video are just fine if I do not resize, but get messed up when I resize (to a larger size).
The video I was converting is 700 megs, but I cut a 100 meg chunk and uploaded it here. http://www.divshare.com/download/5686650-dde
Thanks.
buzzqw
28th October 2008, 13:46
with other player got the same issue ? (try media player classic and VLC)
if yes, there is a bug of mencoder

kurdi

You're right. It was a player issue with KM Player. The colors are just fine when I played using WMP.
Expect a review on my site very soon. Within the next 48 hours!

btw you can try using a "better" suited resizer for upscaling (on advanced settings, like lanczos)

buzzqw, great tool. Thanks
I just have one question:
Is it possible to add in automen.ini default settings which I always use like "Audio Quality = 128", "Video Preset to use", "Select Resizer = 9 Lanczos", etc.
I know it sounds like I am lazy, but I do a lot of transcoding using this great tool and I always have to set these setting again.

It works fine.
Sorry, I dont want to waste your time but for "Audio Quality = 128", I just add this to automen.ini? Or do you have to recompile?
buzzqw

Hi sorry to ask a silly question and I'm sure it's already been covered but I haven't a lot of time to read through all the posts so I'll just ask my question.
(You are talking to a newbie please so dumb it down as best you can) I started this program because I'm trying to convert an AVI file for a 8GB mp4 player. Now I have done it before on this device on another computer which was slower and more useless than this one and it worked fine but everytime I go to encode something on this computer it comes up with 'No mencoder found on path please close AutoMen and edit automen.ini for specify path'
Okay so I changed all the paths in to ini to the AutoMen50_Full folder yet it still doesn't work, please help?
p.s I'm on Vista but this happened on XP too

Hi ihatecomputers and Welcome to the Forum
first of all make sure you have mencoder and mplayer in the same folder as automkv.exe
delete the automen.ini
relaunch automen.exe

I was using automen to convert vob to xvid, it is still working but I received this in the log.
The selected video_out decoder is incompatible with this codec.
Try appending the scale filter to your filter list
eg -vf spp.scale instead of -vf spp.
Should I be doing that, and if so how ?

don't warry.
just check your final file

Sorry for being a pain and thank you for being so patient. I can't seem to get the files to convert for use on my mp4 player.
Now this is the file I converted on my old computer
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b273/jodiesaunders/testing.jpg
Now what settings should I use on the MEncoder to get my files to work? Because I've tried converting using all the options heh but I remember having more options than this one. I must be doing something wrong.

Hi buzz, any chance you allow for setting the profile, would like to use H@4.1 ect.
Thanks
buzzqw
8th December 2008, 17:31
@dansus
with new automen the "encoding" settings is stored in profile.txt
just open the profile.txt, search your encoding settings, and change level to what you prefer (you should found "level=xxx")

Spoke too soon, i can see
\X264 1 pass Slow\ -ovc x264 -x264encopts bitrate:threads=auto:frameref=6:level=41:bframes=2:deblock:direct_pred=auto:partitions=p8x8:me=hex:me_range=16:subq=5:chroma_me:mixed_refs:brdo:bime:trellis=1:weight_b:nr=0
I see level=xxx which is set to 4.1, do i need extra syntax to set level to High?
buzzqw
8th December 2008, 18:56
high level is set automatically by mencoder if using "high" parameters (like more partitions)

partitions will not change the level. to go from main to high level, use 8x8dct
