SubRip - No Save Option ?

Just installed SubRip 1.5 beta 4
.
I've followed the tutorial and it works perfectly at generating the subs.
Problem: There is not a 'File-Save' option as mentioned in the tutorial. So I cannot save the subs. The only thing I can save is the character matrix.
I tried the 'File-Save As' but that also does not allow me to save the sub file.

You need to set up the output format to subrip(srt) before you can save it.

It makes no difference if its srt or sub.
There is no option to save the file generated.

After you click on "Save As...", a "Save" button will appear on the right of the text screen, where you enter in the file name and directory. Strange behaviour, I know, but that's what it does.

I did that and when I press the 'Save' button on the right
there is nowhere to enter in a file name or directory.
It just goes back to the screen I have in my image.

As you can see there is no directory listing or anywhere I can enter a filename.

I've finally made some progress. I decided to try a couple of other movies and the 'Save' button works for those movies. I still dont have a clue why it does not work for my 1st movie.

That's really strange. Is it possible to upload vobsub of this dvd on some www/ftp? For testing purposes.

SubRip constructs the default file name from the input .idx name, adding the language name and extension. If the language name is absent, some weird behavior may occur. It's on the list of fixes, no time to do it :(. Meanwhile, try to name the .idx -> "MovieName.idx", .sub->"MovieName.sub". If that doesn't change things, edit the .idx to add the language name (look on the web for the .idx file format).

Exactly the same problem here. Saving worked for one chapter but did not work for another chapter of the same DVD!

I don't have any .idx or .sub files to test your suggestion, ai4spam, it reads the subtitles from the .vob (with .ifo) file.

Can I somehow get the text into the clipboard? If I try to select the text, it only selects one row at a time.

I, too, am suffering from this problem as well. I've recently starting ripping by chapters now and that's when I noticed the issue happening. I just cannot save my sub rips at all.

Perhaps there's a small bugfix release in the future, eh? *hint* *hint*

Thanks to a friend of mine (RS2), the problem is that the program isn't converting the ripped subtitle text to unicode. Many times subrips will contain a unicode character such as "à" in which it flags SubRip to save the file as Unicode. A fix (from RS2) is to edit your character matrix file (or start a new one) and have a commonly recurruing character such as any vowel with a unicode characters such as "à".
After saving the .srt/.ssa/etc, open it up in notepad and up hit "Ctrl+H". Once the replace text dialog box is open, simply enter your unicode character "à" (or whatever you have) in "Find What:" and put the right character "a" in "Replace With:".

Unfortunately, this is the only workaround that I know of at the moment until ai4spam is able to fix the issue.

Haven't had this particualr issue but when using chars like à Subrip asks me if I want to save to Unicode which I deny which then enables me to save it as ANSI.

this is the exact same problem i've had. only for a few DBZ movies i've been doing recently. everything else works fine. clicked save and there is no dialog box coming up at all.

last month i posted to the main subrip thread and forgot about this until an update there today. for some reason now it lets me save (same char matrix as before). :confused: that doesnt make any sense to me but at least it works now.

This saved my day (yes, I know the thread is oooold !).
It is only needed to have a language set in the subtitles definition (IFO in my case).

I thought it was solved, but at least I know what to do.

PS: normally, all my videos have language definitions. But I had to synchronize a subtitle, and the only way of doing this (without killing my characters - incredibly, Unicode is with us for 20 years now but most if not all subtitle applications are still anchored in ANSI-codepages) was to rip the subtitles into SRT or any other text file. And since SubRip does not rip subtitles from their own format (like IFO/SUP) I had to mux them rapidly and thus no language definition was added.

It's too complicated - it seems to require a full demux and remux of the video, as well as some software I don't have or able to run (adm rights) etc. etc. I trust PgcDemux better, as I get files ready to use for remuxing, whereas the MPG SubExt provides needs an extra step and additional storage.

Besides it did not recognized originally demuxed PGS from a commercial DVD.
Useless for me.


So far I have found only 2 affordable software that are able to create perfect subtitles - one accepts only ANSI files (may be a problem to those needing two different sets, be it even to have the music note) and one that also accepts Unicode - that also honour the <b> and <i> tags (also in the middle). And no, MaestroSBT is not among them.

There's no PGS on DVDs, only VobSub and I have been able to open both PGS and VobSub with it. YMMV.

It's very kind of you that you tried to help me.
Considering I've spent decades in adding subtitles to DVDs, I must say I haven't found yet the software to do this impeccably (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=153385), with the aforementioned exceptions.

Sub Extractor isn't of any help to me. But SubRip works ok if one observe its caveats.
