At 5-year anniversary DSRTv3.00 is released. (~150Kb)
It's is ultimate edition, it's have all features for technical operations with srt subtitles. Now it's supports unicode and have countless technical features. (Win9x supported!) It's hard to understand how to use DSRT, but it's really powerful tool, DSRT is NOT helping you, it's not asking you stupid questions, it's not doing for you unnecessary jobs. DSRT only for serving and nothing more, you press a button and DSRT do what you want at blink an eye... if you know what you really want of course. ;)
DSRT is standard utility in Russia for SubRip subtitles for years.
You can download English version: http://dsrt.boom.ru at "download" section.
If you never used it, you have chance to start now.
(I do NOT provide any english documentation, and never be, only russian docs is available, today is exception... 5-year... ;) )
Let's getting started:
(don't forget to set your region in "File" menu for ANSI scripts)
DSRT have a 3 different modes
1) Text mode:
It's a basic mode for simple operation with subtitles. Like a: Check - just press F7 (Shift+F7 for all opened)
Correct - Ctrl+F7 (it's destroy all errors at once)
Format - F10 (n - lines, m -symbols per line)
Time Shift - F4 (Shift+F4 for all)
Retime - F5 (Use Ctrl+F2 for mark base phrases)
Renum - F8 (usually DSRT numerate phrases for you automatically)
Functions for predcit phrases length - Alt+F10, Ctrl+Alt+F10
Special Replace - F11 (menu Edit)
... and more, and more, and more - check "Script" & "Edit" & "File" menus for details (if you already opened script)
You can open and edit ssa/ass/sst subtitles. And import from
JACOsub/RT/SAMI/SSA/ASS/SUB/TurboTitle/XSS/ZeroG.
2) Video mode - just open file and press Alt+V, now you in the Video dialog. You have same functions as in the text mode, but there you can do some unusual things.
Let's start with "modes"
"Compensation mode" - (small "C" button at bottom of the window) In this mode video playback stops with rollback (default 300ms). What a hell is this you think? :) Just hear the audio track, than press the spacebar and you can insert a new phrase (F9) exactly there you need it. (DSRT compensate your reaction time) Now type the text and press F5 or F6 (starts from start time of current phrase) for resume playback (DSRT calculate phrase duration) and press the End key for end of phrase or Shift+End for stick with followed phrase... (check readme.txt for full list of hotkeys)
"Synchronize mode" nothing unusual here, text and video is synchronized.
"Replace mode" If you using Alt+Enter or Alt+\ DSRT select all phrase's text for you to replace.
"Search mode" Press 3rd button of your mouse over phrase's list and you can find what you want.
Now let's try some controls:
Ctrl+Alt+Left - previous phrase
Ctrl+Alt+Right - next phrase
Ctrl+Home & Ctrl+End I'm think you already know what is it ;)
PgUp & PgDn - like a PowerDVD 5 seconds forward or backward
Left & Right - moves your playback position
F7 - starts playback at start position of the current phrase - 5 seconds
\ - go to next phrase -1 second
You want remove "drifting" than Enter, End, Shift+Enter & Shift+End ready serve for you.
Alt+Delete remove current phrase
F2 - mark for retime operation
Ctrl+F2 mark and calculate shift based on video playback pos.
F4 - Shift all
Alt+Shift+F4 - Shift from current
Press Alt+F and transform video dialog . (basic, basic+phrases list, basic + marked list)
Phrases List help you to locate and edit subtitle, use Ctrl+Click for marking phrase, Right Click for edit phrase and Left Click for activate.
Marked List for set of shifts for marked phrases and perform retime operations.
See readme for another hotkeys. like merge, split and so on.
3) Fullscreen-mode
You are in the video dialog - press Alt+V again and player transform into the full screen editor. There you can delete/edit and merge phrases, press Ctrl+Alt+Arrows or try same keys from video window... in all modes you can use Memory Cells - it's like a clipboard, one cell can save unicode string, or part of script or whole subtitle. Cells not forget anything what you store in them. You can open or close DSRT, cells always ready to serve. Hold down F1 and press any key for memorize selected text. Press F1 and press same key for bring it out. Keys as a memory cells :) Ok, I'm just briefly describe 10% of all features of the DSRTv3. Learn others by yourself. (like a MS Word transfers, adding parts, generate/removing operations and/Complex correction/AutoCorrection and... )
