Found the subtitles but they are not the right ones

So I got a copy of The Celestine Prophecy and some parts of the movie are in Spanish and there are no forced subtitles there is only an English and a French subtitle track. I managed to get the English subtitles but they are for the entire movie and I only need them for the portions of the movie that are in Spanish. I am assuming that I have to manually edit them somehow. How would I begin to go about doing this?

If I remember correctly, from your two previous posts that you deleted, regarding the same topic, you wanted to simply add the subtitles to an .ISO image of this DVD.

If this is still the case, and you've now purchased the DVD, all you have to do is make a backup copy - and it will play the subtitles just as the original does regarding the Spanish-only scenes.

Please don't resort to deleting threads you've started that people have responded to - it's quite annoying. Needless to mention, if one abides by the rules, there would be no need to attempt to "cover one's tracks".

@ manusse, The format is .srt. I made them with subrip.

I encoded the movie with MeGUI and x.264. I want it to display the English subtitles but only when there is a Spanish scene. So I am assuming that there is some way of going through the subtitles in a linear way while previewing the matching video and editing the subs as I see fit?

@ setarip_old, I didn't erase either of those threads. I don't know who did. If they had been there I would have just added to one. I wouldn't have deleted the first post and then made the same post again. Now I understand why you told me that mods can undelete member deleted threads. At the time I thought you meant another member had somehow deleted my posts. :confused:

Maybe you can try with VisualSubSync. I am not 100% sure it will do what you want. Just try it and tell us.

If you only want to rip the forced subtitles, in subrip try ticking the "forced subtitle only" box under options -> global options.

The problem is that there are no forced subtitles. Only the full english and french streams.

So you only have the full English subtitles when you play it in a standalone DVD player? I find that pretty unlikely but I guess I've seen stupider things done.

SubtitleCreator can delete lines from vobsubs.

The catch is that I don't have a stand alone player. I don't even have a television, only a computer. When I play it with powerDVD there are no forced subtitles and when I used subrip to find the forced subs I assumed would be there and weren't due to some powerDVD issue I found none.

But I'll try subtitle creator. Thanks for the advice.

I ask because your postings (this thread and the earlier two) got me so curious that I went out and rented the DVD. It plays properly (shows English subs when Spanish is spoken)under PowerDVD, WinDVD, and VLC...

I don't play DVD's that often so I may have some setting incorrect in PowerDVD but when I played both the DVD and the ISO image The subtitles weren't displayed. And I used the guide for sub rip linked to in the subrip sticky but that revealed no subtitles either. This is how I came to the conclusion that there were no forced subtitles. I then followed the instructions DigitalDeviant posted about how to rip only the forced subtitles...... and it worked! And I still can't make PowerDVD play either the DVD or the ISO with subtitles. The subtitle option is grayed out. But that's neither here nor there at this point. I am still very new to video encoding and it is difficult for me to find guides or information I can fully understand at this point. It is always very humbling for me to visit this site and even more so when it comes down to me needing to ask a question. I know that my questions aren't of the same caliber as most of the others in the forum but I don't know where else to go and I have to start somewhere. Thank you all for your patience. Thank you to every one who helped me with this issue.

Setarip_old stated the dvd is ok(the rented one) showing the forced subs at the right time.
I encoded the movie with MeGUI and x.264
If the copy You made from the original dvd was made without the forced subs then You can't exspect the forced subs exist
after encoding with x.264.
On the other hand it could also be so if You encoded from a copy of the original dvd, a copy without forced subs.
Prob. is, dear saint-francis, we do not and must not help with dl. isos, we only help making copies of the original dvd You own.
