dvd sub ripping - without OCR?

I'm using Subrip 1.30b10...

It rips by OCR... I hate OCR...

I'll have to correct all the "HeIIo"s and "DanieI"s around...


Is there someother program/technology to rip it correctly?

Perhaps the problem is with the SPECIFIC OCR program being used.

I've had no such difficulty when using the OCR tool included in "DVD SubEdit" - and it's fast...

i've used subrip.... always read so good about it...

it only worked well when ripping to bmp....

So I've suggested that you try DVD SubEdit instead...

Two suggestions:

Subrip has a "post OCR cleanup" function intended to remedy problems like the one you encountered, it is explained in the readme.

If you want to rip without OCR and keep bmp-based subs, use Vobsub to rip to idx/sub subtitles. To save space, you can compress the sub file using WinRAR. Recent standalones using Zoran's latest chipset do not support this format, though.

i got the full dvd iso... break it in dozens of pieces, inserted the new subtitle I need, and now I want to remake it... But i'm having some dificulties ripping the 2 original subtitles in the
dvd..

what I did to avoid those boring corrections you mentionned (HeIIo, Miss lsadora...) was to choose a font witch L and i are the same shape (Arial standard, I think).

Now I prefer to keep the original bmp subtitles, but that's just a personnal choice.

As you want to put the subtitles again on the DVD, I don't advice to OCR it except if you want to change the font... However it's a painful process.

So if you only want to rip the subs, you can choose between the SUP format using pgcdemux or the SUB/IDX format using VSRip or VobSub configure, depending on the authoring software you are using. SubtitleCreator can also convert a SUP to SUB/IDX and also the opposite.

I am also using DVD Maestro... generally I will rip the subs of the original DVD using VobSub Configure to idx/sub and use SubResync to change each stream into son files for importing. If the additional subs are in srt then I would use sub2stl to change it to stl files before importing.
