how to position subs anywhere. any tips?

Hi,

I'm looking for a piece of software that can let me choose where I place the subs, taking into account I want to show them in different parts of the screen. Have a look at this as a sample:

part "1"
ABCDE

part "2"
-How are you doing?
-Fine thanks

so that they are displayed like this in e.g. 4:3

text-based subs are displayed along lines: 1-line subs, 2-line subs, whereas I am interested in being able to place each part of the sub in a different part of the screen, being part "2" standard subs displayed at the bottom as usual, and part "1" displayed somewhere else. both parts being displayed at the same time, as just one rendered image can be displayed at a time. maybe there's some software that can imput say .srt and then let you move around different parts of a specific subtitle.

afaik, text-base subs won't allow me to do that. correct me if I am wrong plase. So I was thinking I would have to deal with image-based subs or some piece of software that lets you work that way.

Does anyone know of such a piece?

I don't know for sure, but maybe looking into Aegisub (http://aegisub.cellosoft.com/) might help you.

You can use SubtitleCreator (multiline subtitles) and generate either a SUP file if you want to add it to a DVD or a VobSub (sub/idx) file if you want to preview it with a Computer.
