What do you call this kind format of closed caption?

Certain closed captions sent from TV station are different than usual ones. that is....

when a new word at the bottom line pushes the old word at the upper line to disappear, the great program called "mpg2srt.exe" translates a sentence into something like this.

1sec 2sec t
3sec 4sec th
5sec 6sec thi
7sec 8sec this
this makes a huge sized and useless SRT file.

what i want is
1sec 8 sec this

any treatment?

i can't provide any useful info as i never worked with cc but could you give some insight on ripping cc from digital broadcasts? it seems interesting to me.

I tried to use scctools with vsrip for a year to rip cc (closed caption) but it was never successful, the best i could get was a half page long(1 line or 9 lines) out of about 400 lines.

I found this mpg2srt.exe recently, it almost worked like magic with a very fast speed and created the SRT file as a final production. It flawlessly ripped cc from the recored DVD contents from the LG DVD recorder.

But there were also many many cc that has a different style(typing effect style). TV station was sending some CC not as a whole sentence but a letter by a letter, a word by a word instead. It is impossible to edit SRT in this cc format. because SRT file size becomes about 50 times bigger than so called normal CC.

1. TV program
2. record it in a stand alone DVD recorder with a DVD+RW
3. use DVD shrink to chop off commercials, DVD shrink still maintains CC.
4. use c:\mpg2srt.exe VTS_01_1.VOB makes SRT file.
