Adding subtitles to a DVD created from .avi file

Hi all, I have some movies with .avi extension and separate .sub or .srt subtitle files, I'm trying to make video DVDs out of them but I cant add the subtitles to it, can u help?

One solution is to make your DVDs first and add the subtitles after using SubtitleCreator (DVD authoring wizard).

I have a collection o programs but none of thm is giving me the option to add subtitles, like nero, 007dvd creator, I even tried dvd lab pro but it does not support avi files

As I wrote, first create your DVD without subtitles.
Then use SubtitleCreator to add subs to your DVD (Very simple!).

If you want to have menus to select your subtitles, this is another story.

You can add your subtitles as any look like you want to your DVD video stream.

You can use DVDLab Pro, but you'll have to reencode your avi to DVD source first (MPEG-2) to import it. Since you have to do this at some point anyway, it shouldn't be a problem.

Worst case - if you have no encoder and plan to use Nero Vision for the DVD creation, create the DVD and output to files. DVDLab can demux and import the VOBs.

Hi, I'm trying to do the same thing, I have the DVD .vob file and also the .srt subtitles that I have created by listening to the audio and writing the text matched with the frames.
Then I put the video into the move section and also import the subtitles it creates the subtitles stream .sp1 and then I supposed to have everything ready, I go to Project, then Compile DVD, it dose it all but later when I watch the DVD there is no Subtitle... can any one help to uderstand what is it that I'm doing wrong here??

Yes, I admit sometimes, several days go by without me having 5000 bucks, sometimes even weeks, months.

Sure, I would like to be able to spend that kinda dough on a program. Maybe it's easy in Iran, but here, the average board user don't have that kinda cash.

I think the best way is to start with the avi and srt or sub files.
I have found ConvertXtoDvd by VSO to be about the easiest program out there to convert avi files with either srt or sub subtitle files to DVD. I hear ppl complain about NTSC and PAL but this will take a dvd or avi and and convert in into either format as well. I guess I'm lucky, I have a Liteon DVD recorder that plays either NTSC or PAL. It also reads avi files and I can add a srt file, with the exact same name as the avi and I get my subtitles. I do this all the time. I burn several movies etc to a DVDRW and watch them once and then reuse the disk.

weekay is right ConvertXtoDvd is the easiest way to do it. However , there's just 1 menu, and you can only add 2 subtitles.
BUT ... it is fast (like 90 mins sans burn) stable and it even looks nice.
I hear somebody's writing a guide how to do it with Nero and then add subs later.
Adding subs with Subcreator sux BALLS, first it don;'t work, then it freezes comp, sending HDD in to overdrive, which a scary sound. I thought it was gonna explode. Pulled the plug on it.
