How to insert subtitles to a new a DVD

Like you you can see from my previous mails, I am making DVDs from DV cassettes. I have several types of subtitle-files. There are atleast *.dvdt, *.sub and *.sup files. I tried sup-files but inserting more than one of them does not work with Muxman with my scripts.

My subtitles are from timecodes, so inserting bitmaps one by one takes too much of time, probably.

Any info?

DVD-lab pro can add subtitles in srt format.

Use sub2srt.exe to convert to srt format and then import it from DVD-lab pro. (DVD-lab pro can be downloaded for 30-day trial)

I probably got subtitles working, but it needs a lot of work. If there is a faster way, please let us now.

I did it like this. With Subtitle Workshop, I opened Tools menu. There is Join subtitles tab. There I added sub-files, in right order. Make sure that "recalculate time values" is checked.
Saving that gave srt-file. Muxman (that is what I have now) wants sup-files.

Funny, Subtitle Workshop cant convert to sup-files, only to sub-files.

Then with SubtitleCreator I loaded that sub-file (open text subtitles) and either with "save sup" or with save "sup as", I got sup-file.

And that file seems to work.

I'll post once again a new topic to get info on improvements.

Not sure if it will help, but MuxMan also accepts .SST subtitles.

Yes, I saw that join, but how does it work? Probably some simple thing but I didnt get it working.

Also, I didnt want to install PgcDemux.exe. I've tried too many things today.

I have Muxman working now. But problem with these programs as in most windows programs is that you need a million mouse clicks to get something done. I have more than 100 dv cassettes, and I hope to put all my cassettes to dvd, so scripting or any other automation seems very interesting.

Put if there is some help/guide about SubtitleCreator, I am surely interested. It means one less program.

DVDAuthorGUI can create DVDs with sub/srt/ssa/smi/rt/txt/aqt -text formats, and sup -pixmap format.

MuxMan seems to be rather strict about .SST importing. I use MaestroSBT (ANSI version) to convert .SSA subtitles to .SST, and MuxMan has always behaved nicely.

Here are the MaestroSBT settings I use (for NTSC). Yours might be different:

Set Files:
Use Sonic Scenarist format
Rendering:
Script: .SST
Bitmaps: BMP 4 bits (compressed)
16:9 correction for widescreen, 4:3 for fullscreen or 4:3LB video.
Use "Minus 2" setting.
Color Rendering = Two Colors.
Checkbox on Sticky Colors.
Timing:
FPS in: 29.97
FPS out: 30
Do not use "Separate adjacent titles by one frame" or Snap Time to Frames.

Tried it, and found that "if you have a DVD", too. Maybe it still helps if timing works. Firs a dvd without subtitles and then adding subtitles.

Ok. The problem now is, that I have a lot new sw and I have to do some testing. Anyway this is a much better "problem" than no programs at all.
