Adding srt subtitles to DVD

Hi!
I have a DVD which I want to add swedish subtitles to.
I have extracted the ac3 audio, mpeg2 video and made a subtitle file in subtitle workshop which i saved as srt.
Now I want to author the dvd adding this file as a subtitle stream.
One way that works is to convert the srt to sup in "srt to sup" and reauthor the DVD in ifoedit. This works, but I dont think it looks very nice... The subtitles have sharp edges with visible blocks. So if anybody know a better way to add a new subtitle stream to a DVD please let me know (:

I convert srt to ssa with subtitle workshop and then to sst (scenarist subs script) with maestrosbt. I use muxman to multiplex (it accepts sst).

you can use subtitle creator to create a sup from a srt sub.

if your subtitles dont look as expected in the final dvd, you can use dvdsubedit to change sutitle settings without having to reauthor the dvd.

with dvdsubedit you can change the color, position on screen of the subs etc.

I will try what you suggested susana and see how it works out.
i already tried the program you mantioned ricardo and changed the colors. but the problem i have is that the subtitles looks bad in quality. like a low resolution picture that is enlarged without antialising or something similar.

Note that PC players display subtitles badly. This may be the reason.

Im trying out your method with maestrosbt and muxman. It seems to produce better quality. What bitmap type are you using? I tried with tiff but no subtitles were muxed in :P
im testing the other types while typing.

Windows BMP 4 bits (Muxman only accepts 4 bits image).

To specify subtitle color (based on PGC palette color):

You only need to modify Color, not Contrast, in sst file.

snw, I recommend this method, which is very similar to the method you initially described yourself:

1. Demux video, audio and existing subtitle streams with PgcDemux, and use this program to save celltimes.txt, too.
2. Create a sup file with your new subtitles using SubtitleCreator. This will give you much nicer looking DVD subtitles than Srt2Sup.
3. Put it all back together using MuxMan, which is an up-to-date authoring tool (there's a freeware version), unlike IfoEdit.
4. (optional) Use VobBlanker or PgcEdit to copy the newly muxed main movie into the old DVD structure, to keep menus etc.
