Subtitle problem for newb....

Alright so here's the problem that I'm having. I have a movie that is split into two video files and there's a subtitle file for each video file.

I wanted to make it one video file with subtitles so I could then burn it to a DVD-R so I could watch it on my standalone player on my tv. So I combined the first video file with it's subtitle file to create a new one with the subtitles embedded in the video file, then did the same for the second video/subtitle files. And everything was working just fine. Subtitles were visible and the timing was right on.

Then I tried combining the two video files together to creat one, but whenver I do that, the subtitles disapppear for some reason. I have no idea why or how to fix it, so I figured I'd try posting here and see if maybe I can be enlightend :D

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys.

Just join the subtitles with a tool like SubtitleWorkshop, then mux them in if you want to, or leave them in a separate file.

So for some reason it won't let me join the two subtitle files together. When I goto the join option, I can add the first file, but when I try to add the second it just won't add it. I have no idea why either.

Weird, it should let you do it without problems. Do you have the latest version?
You can also try Subtitle Studio (copanion for RadLight), aka SubEdit. I have version 1.0 of that, not sure if there are any more recent ones.

So I redownloaded the subtitle files and got them to join, then got the timing correct with the video. So I then used Vobsub to 'mux' the two together and it worked great. Except for when I try to convert the AVI file to MPEG so I can then burn it to DVD, the subtitles disappear on me.

I even tried using Nero Recode with the AVI file to burn it to DVD, and the subtitles still disappeared on me.

Any thoughts?

Use VobSub as a VirtualDub filter to "burn in" the subtitle, or some other tool to add them to the DVD.
