HD-DVD and Blu-Ray Disc Subtitles

I know that kind of technology are very recent and not so numerous movie-titles available for testing...

But, I'm curious: do you know what kind of subtitling system they'll use?

I'm mean, in DVD's we know very clear what are used and how to deal to create, edit and extract subtitles.

But, in HD-DVD and Blu-Ray, these high definition disc media, what kind of sutitles they'll use?

Do you know something about that?

Or if it'll be possible to rip such subtitles from that discs using Subrip or other similar tools?

The DVD technology use pictures for subtitles, this is the most compatible solution so far, unlike the new divx players suffer from displaying srt files with other languages correctly because of lacking of font tables. The difference is that DVD can only support 4 colors (which looks really crappy compare to the subtitle quality shown on the computer with vobsub), while the new HD-DVD supports 256 colors, which is a dramatic imporvement in subpicture quality, don't know how many colors blu-ray support, but should be at least as many colors as HD.

interesting topic to discuss. as far as i have read, whereas hd-dvd supports only the same subtitle format as current dvd's (so no improvement), that is, image-based subs, blue ray supports both image-based and text-based subs. so i think that opens the door to something like the avi+srt combination used in computers. i didn't read about 256 colors, which is just great. i might delve into the subject, though.
