Subtitle Edition

Hello, I'm looking for a subs editing program that can do things like
colouring, size and fonts changing, positionig etc. all the subtitles at the same time, I mean not line by line.

Can you suggest something?

I havn't tired many subtitle programs...

but depending on thet format you want it in (probably should specify that) you might just be able to edit in any good texteditor and make a replace string or some thing that could add the position, color, font tags to the lines (which would make every line the same, then you could go back and change just the ones you want differnet manually, or with a differnet replace string)

so just go off that and replace what is needed to make it look how you want, if you want something like idx/sub i'd say the easiest way probably would be to make it in some format that uses somethign you can easily edit and that you know has a tool to convert it to idx/sub (if you find a tool like that please tell me about it, i'd like to convert a .smi to idx/sub right now)

Could you please give us more information about your problem?

Are the source subtitles text subtitles (.srt, .sub, ...) or binary subtitles (.sup, .sub/idx, ...).

What do you want to do with the finalized subs:
-Add them to an existing DVD (or replace the subs from an original DVD).
-Visualize them at the same time as the video with an ad-hoc player.
-Do something else.

Hi,

I have some DivX and XviD videos with hard subs in french. I extracted their times to the notepad with avisubdetector and translated them to my language, but these soft ones are too small and appear below the others, so I would like to move them up, make bigger and highlight in yellow so they cover the older ones.

for that i would suggest just getting vobsub's directshow filter, and edit the settings of that which can easily control all those things. it should have a little green curved arrow in your system tray where you can get to the configuration for it

this wouldn't require any editing of the subtitles themselves, vobsub filter is what displays the subs, so it is just configuring how it chooses to display them

assuming your just watching these on your computer

I'm wondering about the same thing. I'm trying to edit the subtitles on an existing dvd, I'm editing the actual words and fixing errors so I had to rip them as .srt, but I also need to change the color, positioning, and whatnot. Any recommendations on what subtitle program to use? I tried using one from these forums a month or two ago but I wasn't able to change the color for individual lines and more precise editing like that.

Hi DonMartione,

If it's for a DVD (not a Divx), then you can use SubRip+SubtitleCreator:

First you rip the original subtitles, use an ocr and correct them with SubRip.

Then you can use SubtitleCreator to chose the fonts/positions/colors of the subs. You finally generate a .SUP file from your .SRT. Then you use the Manipulate SUP fonction of SubtitleCreator to change the color of individual subtitles (not lines but you can use only one line per subs and this would be OK).

Finally you use the DVD authoring wizard of SubtitleCreator to replace the original subtitles by your newly created one. You can optionaly keep the menus. The wizard uses pgcdemux, muxman and vobblanker that you must also install.

There are some help files that come with SubtitleCreator when you install it.

Can i alter the position and colour of srt subtitles, they will be used with my philips Divx player, or is it the player that selects the position and colour ? Also when i use the philips divx player to display the srt subs there is a grey transparent box behind the subtitles can iget rid of that box and maybe just outline the letters in black ?
