! is l in SubRip

Im using the latest version of SubRip to rip from DVD's that have subs in italics.
The problem Im facing is that whenever the character ! comes up, SubRip automatically assumes it to be the letter l and doesnt let me input my choice. This ! is not in my ChMatrix.
Does anybody know how I can correct this?

After you rip, correct it using Corrections --> Post OCR Spelling Correction.

Are you sure the character getting substituted is not in the ch.matrix? What happens if you do this without a matrix? Surely you should be able to enter the character on your own? Another way is to delete all instances of ! *and* l from the matrix and then try.

Delete all the "l"s, and set the minimum distance between each line in the OCR options a bit higher and the sensitivity to 1000. The problem is that the "." gets recognized first, without the rest of the "!". You may need to use "Take with next" as well, and type in manually all the possible ". <letter>" pairs.

Another way to fix this is opening the sub with MS word. and do a spelling check.

I have fixed my problem.

But my questions was why to dot is never in the text if indeed it is reconisede before the rest of the char.
as stated this is purely a curiosity (did i get hat right?) question.

why doesn subrip always make a take with next look with , and .
e.ge anytime it finds a letter hat i s identifies as a , or . in te matrxi file its make its make a "take with next" search tto se if it can reconise text letter part.
if not it goes back to just using the , or .

Backto my problem.
it wasnt fixed afterall
i deleted alle "I" (capital i) in italic from the matrix.

iat atill reconised the small "i" as capitals "i"
now that wierd.

thats is before i ad any post processiong

adjust the minal a bit hgigher (7 -> 8) and always run with the sensitivity at 1000

Is that capital i or small L? As for your suggestion, SubRip wouldn't be able to recognize the second part of a take with next, it only recognizes them as a whole.

This i a capital i ( with the little fod and head) where as the small L is just a plain straw. (lookign at the text in the sibrip windows before post processing

Here is the fun part
i cna actually never get it to detect on the "i" in the text.
beacuse the "I" in front is detectet as the same letter
even thoug there are clearly different

i i entere a slash "/" insted of a capital "i" whne it asked for the cpaital "i" and yet the same matric entry is used for the samall "i" even thout there are clearly different.
