Problem displaying Divx subtitles on a hardware player

Hello everyone

Here is my problem: I want to back up a TV series boxset I've just bought using Divx. My hardware player is a LG RH 177 (Hard disk recorder) which is Divx Certified and listed on the Divx.com website as compatible player.
This recorder supports srt subtitles if they have the same name as the video files. Unfortunately, this system means that I can only have one subtitle per file but I want to have two (English and French).
The only alternative solution apparently is to use xsubs.

Now, I tried Avisub, it did create the file and the subtitle tracks are recognized (the player indicates 1/2 or 2/2 when I press the Subtitle button); the problem is that the subtitles are not displayed on the screen. I then tried Sub2Divx but the program gives me an error (DOS box saying that divxmux.exe cannot be used as an external program). So I'm stuck.

Has anyone been able to display multiple subtitles on LG players/recorders and if so, how? Am I doing something wrong with Avisub? Is there a way to fix the Sub2Divx error so I can see if subtitles work with this one?

I'll take any information; I've been stuck on this for a while and it really annoys me now. :)

i have not tried Avisub or Sub2Divx, so could not help on the errors you had.

you can try a different approach.
1. convert .srt to .idx/sub (each .idx/sub contains one language)
2. merge above .idx/sub into a single .idx/sub, which should contain all the languages in source files.

I have LG LDA- 511 and LG DR1F9H.

I am not sure with this LG RH 177, but should be as versatile.

do it like this

UFO grandizer.avi
UFO grandizer.smi
UFO grandizer.srt
UFO grandizer.txt
as many as you like .....

press subtitle button and you will have 3 lingo choices and more.

or i don't know how to make avi's with two embeded subtitles, but if you can make it, this also works too. I downloaded the embeded one that did.

on my player at least, it just compares teh files by the first few words or something (havn't quite figured it out exactly)

just incase you havn't tried this, if you have: ignore me since i don't know anything about LG players

but basically i can have (using previous example):

not quite sure about all those, but i'd try something like that before anything more complicated?

or for muxing subs into the avi stream, i've only used Vdubmod and AviMux, which have worked error free for me

but only this player is case sensitive, while other players are not.
