Changing subtitle font

Hello :)

I am making a backup of this DVD, but I am not happy with the font of the subtitles. It is looking weird on my TV.

Is there a way to change it?


I hope someone can help me. This is a great forum, I have always gotten answers to my questions :D

There's no easy way to do it: you have to rip the subs, OCR them (go from bitmap -> text) (use subrip?) then re-author them (subtitle creator?) and mux them back in. Time-consuming, and no guarantee to get a perfect outcome.

Hmm, maybe that's a feature to add to DVDSubEdit: read the bitmap, OCR, then replace it using a custom font.

@jeanl: Well, yes and no: yes, since I know how hard it is to find time to work on something you're giving away for free, and no, since I suppose it would be fairly easy to implement, if there aren't any technical reasons why it wouldn't work :P. Don't tell me you remove hearing impaired subttitles by erasing them in the bitmap... The only restriction I see is that you probably need to keep the size of the bitmaps, so no larger subtitles/fonts can be used.
Bottom line... if anyone can do it, you're the man ;).

Wait, but you're forgetting about going from text to bitmap! Selecting the font, doing the right antialiasing etc. It's very hard to create bitmaps that look good as subtitles! And there are great tools for that! DVDSubEdit simply isn't the tool for it!
