Japanese subtitles w/ furigana in a DVD?

Is it possible to even do this in a DVD? Or at least something that mimics that sort of capability?

Subtitles in DVD are bitmaps, so anything is possible. I'm moving this to the subtitles forum where you should get more help creating the images.

So then say I had something like this:

I could simply cut out that text as one black rectangle with the text over, make the black transparent, create some black outline and then use that in the DVD?

That, or could I use Aegisub to attempt to automate the furigana in dialogue and then use the resulting subtitle file? (need help for programming this)

hmm...
I remember there was a tool that can make VobSubs out of AVI's,
so after you created the subtitle , encode it on black bars or a blank clip to an Avi ,
pass it through the tool to make VobSubs,
and search for the method of importing VobSubs to dvd,
which should be somewhere around this fourm.

but I totally forgot the name of the tool....

I was just wondering if it is possibe to create Karaoke Dvd Subs this way ?

Well, as mpucoder said, anything's possible. It's just a matter of getting the right software. Also, I'm not sure PodPis supports subtitle colors, I think it just thresholds/binarizes, so you can't do karaoke with a color replacing another as a sign of what words are sung.
