I don't want to mess with subtitles. I have some WMV material with
srt files. Now at what speed are these normally? 29.9?

Is there a place where i can find subs for hd movies?

If you have the movie and the subtitles try to sync them with Subtitles Workshop.

Now if You have video and srt file and we are talking about english subs, they should fit as they are. But I understand You wish another language?

No, just English is fine, as long the speed is right. But i do not know where to get them with the right speed!

Tools like SubKonv let you adjust the speed of the subtitles.

Also, if I'm not mistaking, the MicroDVD .sub format are organised by frame number rather than by timecode, so that it fits any video no matter the framerate.

Then I don't quite understand Your troubles....
Did You record directly from american TV and did You get a video stream and a srt file from this recording?
I'm afraid You have to explain the matter a bit deeper....

Only a video -stream. So as I cannot display the cc of the recording, I have to put subs on them!

Because my English is not good enough to understand everything. I have difficulties to understand what they are saying, and when I see the cc, it is much easier!

So...You didn't personally record this broadcast and You don't live in US? What language do You speak?(Your native language)

I can live in the US and still have difficulties to understand what they say in movies! I understand everything displayed in CC!:D

Anyway THAT doesn't matter, if i recorded them myself or not, what does is that I can follow the movie well, and to find either a way to display the CC or to add subritles, that will be displayed syncronised with the movie.

My native language is Flemish.....Dutch same same.
