subtitles not appearing - need help please

Hello, im new to this board and to dvd ripping (if thats what its called)...

this a great board, ive learned a lot reading various threads waiting for my 5 day no-post window to past. I still havent been able to find the answer to probelm tho.

Im trying to rip little 2min scenes from foreign dvds using dvdshrink. then i cinvert to avi using virtualdubmod 1.5.10.2 using the xvid compressor. then, im converting to FLV using erightsoft's super (i love this freeware!!!).

Problem is i cant get the subtitles to appear by default or even at all on the vob, the avi, or the FLV. in reauthor mode im leaving all substreams checked off, i have them forced in the options as other threads have suggested, nothing seems to work. im opening these files in windows classic player, wmp 10, jetaudio, the dvd player that came w/ my dell, and i cant even use these player's subtitle options -- they're grayed out!

Ive tried multiple DVD's and subtitles never rip (forgive the terminology...im newto this)

KIll Bill II - no subtitles, Seventh Sign - no subtitles, 36th Chamber of Shaolin - no subtitles ...


any suggestions?

PS when i open up the vob in dvdsubedit they do appear in that program, all the subtitles do.

i must be overlooking one stupid little thing ive been downloading a lot of freeware from this sites download page and nothing is helping me with these subtitles...

does anyone have an old copy of dvdshrink...or a newer beta? im using version 3.2.0.15

Did you try SubRip? It can show actual subtitle streams located on DVD...

As far as I know, subtitles are located in the Vob files and need separate ripping steps, because dvd shrink can't do it. Selectable subtitles must be remuxed to avi file. VDub is ok to do it, I think. Subrip can rip the subtitles from vob files and create text subtitles files that can be later added on.
I have no further experience in this, so try reading Doom9's guides concerning subtitle ripping.
