Yeah, Nero's he vbr encoding concept is quality-based and the -streaming quality seems to be equivalent to naac.exe's -q7(3~10) vbr, varying around 150~210 kbps depending on the stream complexity, more reasonable quality grade but hard to control the result size, unlike CT's abr( or vbr I am not sure).

more reasonable quality grade but hard to control the result size
generally, only used when I need the extra space, it gives me letīs say those 150+ Mbs buffer so that I donīt have to degrade the video quality.

200kbps * 600sec(100min * 60 sec) = 1200000 kb / 8b = 150000KB =~ 150MB
180kbps * 600sec(100min * 60 sec) = 1080000 kb / 8b = 135000KB =~ 135MB
160kbps * 600sec(100min * 60 sec) = 960000 kb / 8b = 120000KB =~ 120MB

That's still pretty good quality.

I use winamp 5.2 encoder at the highest bitrate (213 kbps), and I have a question : at this bitrate and for a 5.1 encode, I must use the switch "--nops" or not ?

PS is defined for stereo only and for bitrate <=48kbps. So this switch doesnt affect on 6ch encoding at all

I see this line in the source of the latest(02.26.2006) enc_aacplus.exe using winamp5's enc_aacplus.dll.(there can be other encoders based on it or any CT based libs)
nChannelMode = 1==nChannelCount?1:((2==nChannelCount)?( (nBitrate<=48000 && 0==nType && 0==bNoPS ) ?4:nChannelMode):0);

The auther wanted to restrict the 2ch PS encoding option @ <= 48kbps for some reason.

Btw, the --chmode user input is not parsed to nChannelMode before this.

So for the source bit rate > 48k, even if the user passed the --chmode as PS(4) , it will use the default channel mode for the 2ch sources:

int nChannelMode=2;

For your 6ch source, it will apply 0(multichannel mode) regard less of the options passed.

Very interesting threat... I don't do alot of 5.1 encoding, but I would use the Winamp HE-PS option to make a DVD backup these days...

The question that I had, while reading this threat, how far is the development of Parametric Spatial, the multichannel variant of Parametric Stereo...? There is very little to be found about it on the net, just some studies etc, not much practical stuff!

I use latest Winamp 5.2 @ 192kb/s LC AAC

And it sounds much better than anything i've ever been able to attain for a nero plugin, even at twice the bitrate the nero version seems to have artifacts at low noise scenes such as popping.

Yes i confirm that, Nero 6/7 is very terible in 6ch encoding especialy Nero 7, Ivan Dimkovic says that new version of codec will came soon, who is written from the beginning, and aslo says that Nero 6/7 have bug with 6ch.

Currently I use Nero AAC encoder (nero 6 i think, definitely NOT 7) with belight. So I use dgindex -> AC3 -> Belight -> Nero AAC.

I plan on switching to MeGUI's complete interface when the development stuff settles down, in which case I'll then be using AVScriipt audio encoding. I might switch to BeHappy (if a MeGUI 1.0 is waaaaay far out) once the tool becomes a bit more user-friendly (No offense meant).

I've just been very happy with Belight's simplicity (and simulatneous complexity) and the file quality is always great. I like to output to .aac NOT .mp4 and I like that I haven't had audio sync issues in a loooong time now. I used to use other programs (DVDx 2.3) and had audio sync issues constantly. Now, I use DGIndex, MeGUI, Belight, and YAMB. Hopefully, when MeGUI development finishes up a bit, it'll be DGIndex and MeGUI!!!

BeLight is very good program but i nearly switched to BeHappy beacouse avs is more relaxable.

To be honest with you, I don't know how to find out which nero dll's I have :) So info in that way would be great. I found many of the necessary dll's already on my computer because of a regular Nero install...

Nero detection utility has me with nero burning ROM 6.3 something My best guess.

Sorry Kurtnoise13, I forgot that belight uses files from currently installed version of Nero.

@Dayvon So, if you've installed Nero6 than you got Nero6 files; same thing with Nero7
