I have altered my QuantDump utility to provide the frame numbers. Can you please test that and if it is satisfactory, let me know and I will update DGIndex the same way. Thank you.

Thanks, I'll have a look as soon as I get home this evening :)

It's a command line utility. So you should be able to put the path in quotes and have it work. If not, please tell me what your command line is that does not work.
Command line:C:\Test\QuantDump.exe C:\Test\Abba Zappa.mpg C:\Test\Abba Zappa.txt: Not working
Command line:C:\Test\QuantDump.exe C:\Test\AbbaZappa.mpg C:\Test\AbbaZappa.txt: Working
Other aspects of your tool are working great!

Hi Donald,
I've uploaded an 80 MB .TS sample to your ftp server....
If memory serves it contains 3No audio tracks in total. 1No 6Ch AC3 stream (in English), 1No 6Ch AC3 stream (in German) and 1No 6Ch DTS stream (in English)...
Cheers and thanks

@Taurus
just to complete Boulder's iformation...
"C:\Test\QuantDump.exe" "C:\Test\Abba Zappa.mpg C:\Test\Abba Zappa.txt"
the quotes around "C:\Test\QuantDump.exe" is not needed in your case but if you have the executable on a folder like "test app" then you really need to use them... something like:
"C:\Test app\QuantDump.exe" "C:\Test\Abba Zappa.mpg C:\Test\Abba Zappa.txt"

With DVD 'The Beatles - Help!' there's a timeline navigation problem.
Here's a part of d2v project:
900 6 0 229392384 9 3 72 73 d0 f1 f2 e3 f0 f1 e2 f3 f0 e1
900 6 0 229431296 9 3 72 73 d0 f1 f2 e3 f0 f1 e2 f3 f0 e1
900 6 0 229468160 9 3 72 72 d2 e2

900 6 0 229570560 11 1 70 70 d0 f0 f0 e0 f0 f0 e0 f0 f0 e0
900 6 0 229752832 11 1 70 70 d0 f0 f0 e0 f0 f0 e0 f0 f0 e0
When navigating forward over vob 10, there's no indication about it in window's title -- there are 'vob 9' and then 'vob 11'.
When navigating backwards, it's ok -- 'vob 11', 'vob 10' and 'vob 9' are shown.
I can provide a sample, but I don't know good tools for cutting VOB files.. :(

I can provide a sample, but I don't know good tools for cutting VOB files Without a sample that shows the problem I can't help you. Get a VOB splitter on the Doom9 full download page.
Anyway, you have a VOB with one frame in it? Where did that come from?
Also, try navigating with the single step feature. Maybe the GOP stepping is getting confused. It appears to be entirely a cosmetic issue, yes?

I couldn't find appropriate tool even on full download page. Could you tell me the name of this prorgam? :rolleyes:

It's a part of big file VTS_01_4.VOB of DVD 'Help!' (starring The Beatles).

Yes, it's cosmetic, but cosmetic bugs are bugs too.. ;)
Sigle step also doesn't work properly..

Jusp opened VTS_01_4.VOB directly from DVD..
Sample was made by 'manual extraction' feature of Chopper XP.

Wouldn't the VOB still have the copy protection intact and that might cause the problem with ChopperXP?

VTS_01_10.VOB has 9 characters in the name and is out of specs, therefore there is no tool to manage it properly.
On PC you can copy the remaining VOBs to _9.VOB (more than 1 GB), then a PC can access properly. After editing you have to shrink to 9 regular VOBs, or create a new titleset for the rest.

I didn't understand why dgindex can't pass audio to dgdecode. Is this not possible or not implemented? Is there interest to implement this feature?

- Any plans for supporting AVI files (Uncompressed, MPEG4, DV, etc)?

Why pass it to DGDecode, which is a video decoder? The Quick Start guide explains how to serve video and audio together.
Other plugins can open video and audio (DirectShowSource, AviSource) why not MPEG2Source too? It would be more easy to compress audio in virtualdub.
My audio source is MPA and I always need to convert in WAV to use WAVSource. If MPEG2Source can open audio too, my life would be more easy.
Rockas

@acrespo
you can use nicaudio.dll to load every "usuall" mpeg2 audio formats into the avs script.

I am suggesting this feature to make all things more easy. One plugin less (nicaudio).

acrespo
13th March 2006, 18:08
I usually use Besweet to convert MPA files to WAV. Then I open AVS in virtualdub and load the WAV file to compress in MP3 format. I do other way too: convert MPA to WAV, load WAV in the script with WAVSource and compress in virtualdub.
I think it's too many passes to do. When I compress AVI files I only use AVISource and load in virtualdub to compress both audio and video. I don't need to do dgindex project and besweet conversion. I am trying to make all process more fast. I did too many videos and I don't have much time.
I am thinking other thing: If dgdecode.dll could manipulate the mpeg2 (video and audio) files directly without do d2v project in dgindex, the process will be more easy yet!! Why not? ;)
Rockas
13th March 2006, 18:22
I'm not a VirtualDub expert but... would'nt it work with a script like:
loadplugin("d:\tests\dgdecode.dll")
loadplugin("d:\tests\nicaudio.dll")
v=MPEG2Source("D:\Tests\teste3.d2v")
a=DelayAudio(NicMPASource("D:\Tests\teste3 -40ms.mpa", 2),-0.040)
AudioDub(v,a)
I'm not sure about this... but it would be easier to neuron2 if he "supports" the audio through the AVS template (if it doesn't support already :confused:)

@acrespo
Please consider the "wrapper" solutions like GK, etc., if ease of use is your primary goal.
There is a perfectly adequate process to avoid multiple passes. It is just as given in the Quick Start guide and as Rockas has shown. If you set up your AVS template correctly, you won't even have to think about it.
DGDecode needs the index information from DGIndex to work. Putting all the DGIndex functionality into DGDecode has been suggested (see Development list).

Consider this just a retoric question... but feel free to answer :D
Most of the encoders use "kbps" for bitrates so... I wonder... why does DGIndex gives "Mbps" results?
[Isn't it funny that people that can't find BIG flaws start looking for details? :D]

Most of the encoders use "kbps" for bitrates so... I wonder... why does DGIndex gives "Mbps" results? I prefer Mbps because that is what we use in the set-top box development world, where we deal with high bitrate streams.

I noticed that when making my calculations for target sizes when encoding and the funny stuff is that I can multiply by 1000 and it comes out fine... should the multiply be by 1024? is bitrate velues following the DVD media makers scale? :)

* Added a new option called Use Full Paths. When enabled,
behavior is as it always has been. When disabled, only file
names (not full paths) are used as references in the D2V and
generated AVS files. This makes it easier to move project files.
This new option was contributed by Christian Eberl. Thank you, Chris!
* Changed the exception handling in DGIndex. Previously an
exception would abort the entire preview or save project operation.
Now only the current picture decoding is aborted.

i think i found a bug,
here is the screenshot:
http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/2526/d2v5fb.png
notice the black line in the bottom?
Here are the avs and the dgindex options im using, the source video is 800x600 @ 24fps, resize to 640x480 with bicubic:
start /low/b/w D:\DGIndex\DGIndex.exe -IA=7 -OM=0 -IF=[%~1] -OF=[%~dpn1] -exit
loadplugin("D:\DGIndex\DGDecode.dll")
mpeg2source("D:lapis_pvs.d2v").BicubicResize(640,480, 0, 0.5)
Ive tried serveral options and resizer but still cant get rid the black line, am i doing something wrong?
its only happen when 800x600 mpeg1 video clips resized to any resolution.

Sorry man, i dont know how to cut the mpeg file,
so i use mkvtoolnix...
its the original mpeg1 stream with mpeg layer 2 audio.
i didnt test carefully, the mkvextract doesnt support extract mpeg1 stream...
i tried remux to mpeg contrainer with mencoder and it works,
i think you should try it too... :)

Hi Yong,
You could have used AVI-Mux to demux the the RAW (.m1v) stream out of the .MKV container. And MPEG Multiplexer to mux that stream into the .MPG container...

There's a known issue with MPEG1. The workaround is to crop the excess off the bottom in your Avisynth script.

The raw MPEG-1 stream does not appear to contain much header information.... When you load it into Gspot all you see is this: -

Anyway, don't bother. You have to crop in your Avisynth script.

tried this last night and loved the option to create an avs script with the clips name.
looked through this thread and the included read me's and couldnt see if there was an option to do the same with the ac3 if used as a source in the AVS script? hopefully the same with the audio delay info
i.e.
Video=mpeg2source("clip.d2v")
Audio=directshowsource("clip T01 3_2ch 384Kbps DELAY 66ms.ac3")
DelayAudio(0.066)
filling in this info automatically?
if this is not possible at the mo, any chance of making it a feature request for future versions? :)
would save time when doing a lot of scripts
EDIT
----
just found the __aud__ option - must have missed that one last time. hopefully will find an option somewhere for the delay also :D

Thanks for your excellent work, neuron!
I have a feature request - when a .ts file is opened by dragging it over the window and dropping, the File List requester is shown. However, when using Open With in the context menu, DGIndex is launched but fails to open the file. Apparently windows calls the app with "appname.exe" "%1" where %1 is the filename.
