Don't edit anything.
Shoot lots short and very short video clips.
Play them back in any order and don't play others.
That is a form of editing.
People need to know there is an alternative, to editing the Sh** out of video.
It is called proper editing.
Get out there and show some unedited current video.
What's stopping you?
Fearing for my saftey as people try to attack me for having them watch boring unedited video.
I may be crazy, but I not that crazy.
Point after point I make and most still don't understand.
You just get more good video my way.
That is all your opinion. You have yet to present a fact or make a point. In fact you contradict yourself saying people should not edit the video and that you yourself don't. Yet in the next breath saying that they should in fact edit.
Who is the stubborn ones here.
If I didn't know any better I might think that was ironic.
Editing has been and always will be important and indespensible skill. You can edit in camera or on the PC or dedicated hardware. But it is still editing. I could never be so cruel to subject an audience to truly "unedited" video.

ok i wasnt going to post here again but i should mention this.
if you want to see or hear opinions of others who have seen his "unedited" work then go to the videohelp link he gave. read through and he gave some links to show his footage. interesting to read how exciting people found it. ;)

I wish they would get "Lord Of The Rings - The Unedited Edition" out soon. I'm dying to see it..
:D
(And no, I don't bother editing my DV shots but that's just because I'm lazy and I don't want to lose any footage of my kids growing up)

It is interesting how ones perspective changes.
If you start recording and playing music,
you become pissed at Radio for the constant interruptions.
If you start doing video you become pissed at TV and the movies.
for a whole multitude more reasons.
eg.
Hollywood like lawyers, try to take credit for all "social advancement"
in the last 100 years.
Most resent movie makers pushing their agenda. (Left or Right)
Movie makers edit, video makers shoot.
Don't get me too wrong. Granted there are a few things that do need editing.
And I have learned a few pointers, in all the discussion. Even learned a bit
more about not editing as well. The main point here is "yes you can get by
quite nicely without editing" Like anything, one needs to know a few of the tricks.
We don't have to love editing, to have fun with a camcorder and video.
I was expecting a few more "Yup he's got a point" responses.

you may have a point, but it's not one that's likely to be agreed upon, and i find it mildly amusing that you were expecting everyone to agree with you. that smacks of delusion to me, but i'm no shrink :)
your radio analogy breaks down because no radio station is going to play a live feed from some recording studio somewhere. they will have to make a compilation of songs from all over the place, and even if every one of those songs contained no editing whatsoever, the mere act of compiling them will give you an edited program, so even endeavouring not to edit will be futile.
your hollywood analogy i have no idea about... it was a tad incoherent, and i couldn't grasp your point even after re-reading it several times. even so, editing isn't the vehicle that pushes certain people's agendas. a live show can do that just as well. though i agree that over-edited movies are annoying as hell (catwoman). i heard said once that editors should cut on the first blink after someone's finished talking. seems like a good idea to me - gives the brain time to digest what it's just heard...
although, you might want to watch "Russian Ark", as i'm sure you'll love it. though there's no (video) cuts in that film, i'm sure loads and loads of post production work went into it, as well as probably hundreds of hours of audio work, all of which involves editing scene-by-scene. even if there's no _edits_, the movie is still highly episodic, and all movies are by their nature. stories are told in parts, and have been for thousands of years. books have chapters, plays have acts and scenes, and movies have edits.

Perhaps you should have posted on a site that is dedicated to not editing video. Read the fourms before you post to see what its about.
Sometimes its not what you present but how you present it.
Edited or not.

I've been doing lots more postings during the month I was banned
on this forum. They want to take some of my footage and we'll have
a edit no-edit showdown. I'll do the no-edit side.
(homegrownforums.com) is taking up the challenge.
I can make an extra copy if anybody is up to the challenge here?
I was wanting to make a DVD set of the 2005 White Crow video.
This footage that would be ideal for and editing no editing test.
There must be 3 or 4 hours and hundreds of short to very short clips
Some Good, some at long range, some foggy, some more shaky than others etc.
This crow looks a lot like a European Hooded Crow so its either
a rarity or a sign of climate change or just a plain old foreigner.
He even hangs with magpies. And more or less a Big Boss among Crows.
This is probably the only footage that could possibly possibly
be improved by editing. It won't be that bad of a video to watch unedited.
I'll go through my DVD's and CD's today.
He/She should be returning for the 2006 season. I want to start videoing
right from the nest building.

What I don't understand about this post is why you even care what we do with our video. Did you ever consider that your opinions might be taken more seriously if they were offered as opinions rather than being forced down our throats being stated as fact?

If you were banned on this fourm why are you back. I know that you have have been posting elsewhere. I did a google search. Most of the posts are the same post as you have posted elsewhere. With the same not video editing is way better attitude. Some of the postst I cannot find. Most likly pulled. Should I call you

I did try to keep from doing the same stuff twice.
But Law of averages was just too good.
I use google to check how many of the forums
are and arn't being found. homegrownforums.com
isn't found by google.
Back because I ain't banned now.
Not quite as many clips as I thought
95 clips and 4.4 GB so it fits on a DVD
Just burning the first "WhiteCrow 2005" DVD now

editing video is no bad thing. its really interesting and it actually makes the movie real good. definitely a better flow of scenes come after editing.

i can believe this thread is still open....
spectateswamp, dude, man.... the second u press "stop" on your camera, you ARE editing since you`re deciding that u don`t want to get any footage after a particular point. So what`s the difference between doing it in the camera or in a PC? Your point is mute, you ARE stubborn and forcing us to question your intelligence.
Why do we edit? Cause we want to. It`s called freedom of choice. If u were able to understand that, u wouldn`t be talking anymore. (Or maybe if u had a woman... ever).
I say again, why is this thread still open?

This thread is still open because I'm right.
The not editing I'm talking about is physically not changing
the original files, with editing software.
Editing like you describe is crap. Is editing deciding not to
take the camera along, or blinking during playback, editing?
Editing because you like/love it is more than fine with me.
What is wrong is all the editing types saying that it is a must
I've got along quite nicely not editing for 3 years.
One looses shots today by bit fiddling with yesterdays action.

i have to say to people please dont bother to try and explain or help. if you readnot only this thread but others he linked to its been explained to him many times but he is not interested in others views. i think a couple of quotes from him.
What is wrong is all the editing types saying that it is a must
even though plenty have said its not a must but can be used to improve things he still pushes that as being what people are saying.
and this should show exactly his attitude and why its not worth wasting anymore time over.
This thread is still open because I'm right.
so please let this thread die the death it deserves.

I'm about ready to push off.
Don't care to get the last word in.
Let others can carry on the debate?
I have another bone to pick, with IT types.
Do screen captures, ditch obscure file types, otherwise lose it.
Why on earth would anybody want to keep info in the
originating software's format? One seldom runs the same
report twice and they arn't very transportable.
txt, bmp, jpg, wmv, mpg, avi are ok, more is worse.
I have emails going back to 1996 (saved as a handfull of .txt files)
I want to start a thread on this subject next.
Just havn't decided on the title.
"Obscure data formats equals poor accessibility"
"Not portable then ditch it"
"Too many formats guarantees data loss.
.
.
Any suggestions?
News-flash WhiteCrow is alive seen here abouts for the last week...
